I am getting ready to write a blog post about Powell/Polaris dining, and would love to get some personal opinions on what independent restaurant you love and why. Thanks!

Ditto on Luce in Powell. Wonderful people, food, and wine. I'm a fan of low wine markups. There are a few newer places in Powell that I've wanted to try but I haven't heard much feedback/reviews (i.e. Local Roots).
Polaris seems to be the high rent/chain district until you get to the west a bit toward US23.

I've heard good things about Luce & Lost Shepherd, but I haven't been up there to either of them yet. More info:

There are really very few good unique non-chain restaurants up here in the Polaris area. I work up here and rarely find myself back up here in the evenings when most of the nicer restaurants open.
The Polaris Grill is one place worth recommending. My understanding is that it has been here in the area for quite some time (relatively speaking). They do have a limited menu selection of seafood and steaks but they are all very nice entrees. I've eaten here half a dozen times or so in the past few years. I find the place a little pricey myself. One of their notable Sunday brunches (buffet style) set me back $45 for two of us! http://www.polarisgrill.com/
BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse is one of my favorites dispite the fact that it is a chain. They have some very good entrees that cater to all types. It's quite the selection. My favorite is the California Chicken Sandwich. They have a good selection of microbrews as well. The Hefeweizen is a personal fave. They are open for lunch too. http://www.bjsbrewhouse.com/
The Bonefish Grill is my favorite seafood restaurant (that is reasonably priced) ever since RJ Snapper (in the Short North) closed. They have an awesome Chilean Sea Bass. They are not open for lunch--very disappointing. http://www.bonefishgrill.com/
If you want to venture to the East, and perhaps it is out of your target area, the Hoover Grill could be worth a mention. The atmosphere is unfortunately better than the food, but it is hard to stay away. The nautical theme and the reservoir make me feel like I have gotten away from Ohio. I would compare the food to some place like Applebees. http://www.columbusunderground.com/forums/topic/bel-lago-the-former-hoover-grille ETA: I guess it has changed names. It has been a while...
Bayleaf is decent, in my opinion. I don't think it compares to The Taj Mahal on High St in Old North Columbus, but again this is Polaris.
Eddie Merlot gets great reviews but I have not been there. http://www.eddiemerlots.com/
O'Charley's is a good standby chain for me for a casual lunch. It's not worth a mention--no different than any other.http://www.ocharleys.com/
Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers is a chain Pizza shop that has good food and a great selection of beers. I’ve only been once but I have been meaning to go back. http://www.mellowmushroom.com/

Ha Long Bay, a Vietnamese restaurant at 8489 Sancus Blvd. Can't understand why it doesn't seem to get more traffic.

Marcella's

Bonefish is a chain. I've seen them in Arizona.
Last time we went, we tried to find Ha Long Bay and drove through three different strip malls with no luck. I've been there before but I cannot seem find it again. Is it definitely still there?

bayleaf
carfagna'sI'd stay far away from Lost Shepherd. Tried 3 times.... not ever going back.

@dirtgirl, it's been months since I've eaten at Ha Long Bay, so I'm not 100% sure it's still there. Fwiw, the most recent reviews on Yelp and Urbanspoon are from January. I do recall searching for it for a while when I first went - it was well worth it though, the food was really fresh, tasty, and inexpensive.

If we're going to the Polaris area, we're probably eating at Chik-Fil-A. ;)+1 :)
Chik-Fil-A, at least go for something yummy like Pot Belly's!!! ;)

I +1000 to Carfagna's. I don't know why this place doesn't get more attention, but it's so good and cheap. The only downside is the communal seating. It's a PITA on weekdays for lunch.
There's lots of good independent restaurants in the area, they're just tucked in to the strips off the main roads. There's an awesome gyro place we used to go to all the time that I'll have to consult my Chase peeps for the name of.

Bonefish is a chain. I've seen them in Arizona.Bonefish is owned by OSI Restaurant Partners. The O and the S stands for Outback Steakhouse. They also own Carraba's, Fleming's and Roy's Hawaiian.
I'd actually not mind a Roy's at Polaris. It's been a long time since I was in one, but I remember a good meal.

If its before 6 I would recommend Rude Dogs, their BBQ is good, so are their homemade chips with blue cheese topping, YUM!
Of course the $2.20 tall Killians hits the spot too.
