Do you have to be a Costco member to buy glasses there?
I wanna know this too. And I want to get my eyes checked there, too.
Then again, it's what, $50 to join?

Just a quick plug for a local Short North eyewear business:

Got my eyes checked there a few weeks ago and got my first ever pair of glasses (I'm getting old). Dr. Daniel Koch is a really great guy, and the staff there is super friendly and helped pick out the perfect pair.
Thumbs up from me!

Yep, $50. I say lets start a business and go in for a business membership (same price and can add additional members for $40 apiece, but need a business license, resale certificate, or three pieces of business ID).
Sams Club is equally inexpensive. Around $65 for exam and a $67 deal for frames and lenses
- I saw similar frames to Walkers ;)
Note - stay far away from lenscrafters, they will upcharge you blind...

Common guys, support the University.
Personally I like Morganthal-Fedricks frames.
Unfortunatly the closest place that sells them is in New York and Chicago.

But like all things bought at costco you can return it in a year.
So you could buy a membership. Use it for 10 months and then return the membership and get your $50 back.

But then they put you on that list and no one ever sees you again. :(

It was cheaper for me to pay cash out of pocket at Walmart than to pay the copay on my glasses at the regular eye doctor. Under our VSP plan, I think it was close to $100 that I would have paid, so I asked for the prescription and left. With everything, Walmart was about $65 IIRC.
That's where I am going when I need my glasses updated. Plus I've seen the commerical about the new program. The first 12 months (a year) if they get broken, they will replace them for free.

I checked out Columbus Eyeworks. Very stylish selection! Sadly, my prescription is so strong I'd have to pay $450 for lenses alone, and the chepaer frames were around $200.
So I ordered from Zenni Optical ($60 total) and am excited to see how it turns out. Frames Direct online has a feature where you can upload a picture of yourself and superimpose virtual glasses to see how they look. Pretty neat!
Columbus Eyeworks is a great local option. The people there are very professional and friendly and they offer a SBB discount with your community card!
+1 Columbus Eyeworks
My annual exam was with OSU last week, but I wasn't overly excited about their frames selection this time around and decided to look elsewhere. Great service at Columbus Eyeworks. They were very helpful without being all up in my business. They let me browse and then helped me narrow my choices. Ended up taking advantage of their sunglasses special, too.

Just got a pair there a couple of weeks ago. Very nice place, good vibe with (mostly) friendly people. Dr Koch was very nice about getting my glasses to fit correctly and you can't beat the selection!
I went to Columbus Eyeworks to have my screening, but couldn't justify his enormous mark ups. He had a pair of Lucky (not a particularly high end brand at all) frames I liked for $325, I looked online and they were $125... Not to mention he wanted an extra $200 or 300 for lenses with anti glare coating.
I asked for my pupil distance and purchased a nearly identical set of frames (with lenses) for less then $25 from zennioptical.com and was very happy. There's a thread on Fatwallet with a bunch of online discounter reviews...
If anyone is looking for glasses, Rinkov is running a Groupon today. $50 for $175 Worth of Prescription Eyewear.
