Any advice on where to buy a rocking chair? Most chain furniture stores don't seem to stock them. Craigslist is too hit/miss. Baby stores (it is for a new mother) are so expensive. Looking for a fairly standard, indoor, wood, rocking chair. Finished or unfinished.

There are a couple of options: for a new chair, try Amish Country. There are a ton of furniture makers. This site is a good resource: http://www.furnitureheartland.com. I know that most will even make custom pieces, with the wood and finish you're looking for. Homestead Furniture in Mt. Hope is particularly impressive, and the woodshop across the street is extrememly eco-friendly - ask for a tour if you can.
For a used chair, check out the antique malls. I've had good luck with furniture at the South Point antique mall on High Street near 270 south of downtown, and also the German Village Antique Mall.

A lot of people seem to have those Eames rocking chairs in their nurseries.
Personally, a nice cushy rocking chair was the one thing we splurged on for our nursery and I can happily say I haven't regretted it. For as long as you sit in it with a kid, I think nice cushions everywhere is a big plus.
I think a wooden rocker would be pretty, but also uncomfortable after 20 minutes.

there's a counrty restaurant that sells them. not Bob Evans or Tee jays, but the breakfast place that has a "Country Store". Cracker Barrel! Ah, I remembered. they usually have them out front for customers to sit in them and check them out. I think they are for sale. You'd think Restoration harware would have them as well.

Actually the Eames shell chair rocker was originally created for pregnant female workers as a gift from the Herman Miller factory which then went on to be a very popular retail piece. Similar to this is the "bird chair" by Bertoia, which isn't a rocker but is very comfy.
More to the point though is the fact that we have a nice glider like you'd find at those baby stores which I need to clear with my wife but we would probably pass it on to you on the dirt cheap if you're into it.

Try Once Upon A Child, http://www.gently-used.com, and Freecycle. I'd strongly urge a second look @ Craigslist; I've bought and sold tons of barely used baby items for really cheap. I just did a search for the word "glider" and found some really nice items for under $100.
