From the Dispatch...
Where I Eat: Peggy Ripley

Dear God, someone please tell me why this thread exists! The latest subject eats at Carrabas, Bob Evans, The Red Lobster, etc and that is worth bandwidth???

Go back to pages 14 & 15 of this thread. People were complaining about the same thing a year ago:
http://www.columbusunderground.com/forums/topic/where-i-eat-weekender/page/14#post-318762
It improved a bit after the complaints, but now it seems to have gone back to less of a "discover new foods and interesting places to eat" article and more of a "where a random person with bland/generic preferences shoves food in their mouths" article.
Seems people quit caring a long time ago though...
This one is so sad! Bethia needs to call this lady and walk her around Columbus, like Amelie did with that blind man in the movie Amelie.
I never understood the complaints before, and I don't understand this one either. The article was never titled "discover new foods and interesting places to eat". I think there are plenty of outlets you can find that if you look hard enough - particularly on this site. On Thursdays, even the Dispatch has this niche covered with some of their other restaurant reviews/articles.
The article is entitled "Where I Eat", and I try to view it as more of a treasure hunt. The randomness makes it unique and interesting. The article is much more about the uniqueness of the person than anything else - they feature the person's photo, location, and occupation.
What would you rather the Dispatch do? Have readers submit their own questionnaire and have editors determine who is the foodie of the week?
The Dispatch is a newspaper - do you find dining recommendations for Applebee's and Bob Evans particularly newsworthy? Do you think any reader was just clued in to the existence of these restaurants?

+1
I hear "Dennys is also pretty good."
It's one step away from interviewing a person who doesn't ever eat out and printing that article.

But if the person talks about non-unique restaurants, how interesting is that? How much of a treasure hunt is that? Sure, it's a fluff piece, but it could at least be worth reading.

The author of the article could find more interesting people to interview. If they conduct an interview that isn't worth reading, don't publish it.
That's what editors DO.

I know this particular person and have taken her to quite a few awesome places. She likes what she likes. Please be kind.
To each their own. People are allowed to like what they like. But this person isn't a good fit for this type of article.
It would be like showcasing me in a fashion feature. :P
