My brother is turning 30 in June and for his present I wanted to buy him some quality versatile going out/work basics. He despises shopping so I was surprised that he agreed to this. Probably because he will be able to say that mom didn't buy them for him for once. He's 5'4 and overweight (maybe 230 lbs?) so I'm not really sure where we'd get them. I usually shop at Nordstrom and Banana Republic for my clothes since they have specialty sizes for women. Are there any other stores you can think of that would make this as painless as possible for him?

There used to be a shop called "Zacchaeus", located in the building that Penzy's spices is now, that catered to short men, and more specifically, overweight short men. Even more specifically rich overweight, desperate to find something that fits short men.
At 5'3", I was very excited to find someplace that might carry clothes that I could buy that fit without alterations. Whoa, though, not so fast - I needed 29x29, not 29 x46. And not for $75. And that was in the mid 90's. Since the left, there's nothing. We're stuck with retrofitted clothes or ill-fitting clothes (and the two are NOT mutually exclusive).
I'm as interested as you are - Anybody?Posted 2 years ago # -

I wouldn't rule out a good tailor as the answer to your problems. The larger sizes usually end up on the sale racks anyway, so you can probably about even out with the savings off of retail and what you will be paying for tailoring. Make part of the gift taking him out for a drink and then swinging by the tailor to get pinned. He'll feel like a king and get the best fitting clothes he has ever owned.

Kohl's and JC Penney's have a wide variety of sizes for men and they always have good deals. They carry some really nice brands, too. My husband is a hard to fit size and I shop at those stores for him. You could also try Nordstrom.

@tigertree Absolutely! He's turning the big 3-0. I'm dressing him up so I can take him out on the town. He rarely gets drunk so it's pretty hysterical when he does. My best friend's birthday is also being celebrated then so I'm going all out and making them jello shots and my specialty Irish Car Bomb cupcakes (Guinness in the chocolate cupcake, Jameson's in the ganache and Baileys frosting.) :D

This is going to be way easier than I thought. Apparently he lost a ton of weight since the last time I've seen him. His shirt size is 16" neck 32-33 which I easily found nice dress shirts (Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein) at TJ Maxx at Easton for $10-$20 each. The pants are a little trickier. He has a 29" inseam and a 34" waist. The shortest pants I could find are a 30" inseam at Nordstrom and Banana Republic and that could be easily tailored. Still working on the blazer and skinny tie part.

I've found 34"x29" work pants (and jeans) at Kohls. They aren't particularly fancy, but they would work in a pinch.

There is a big & tall store immediately behind that Penzy's on Kenny near Henderson.
