Specifically looking for Pittsburgh, but thought this might be helpful to others?
Pittsburgh anybody? I'm going to Ikea on Saturday and want to stay in a nice area and dine well that evening.

Sorry, I don't know one for Pittsburgh, but I got some decent advice from this site when I was going to St. Louis last year:
I use TripAdvisor a lot for other places. Not always useful though. Sometimes it is.
Yelp is another decent one...
2nd for yelp.
Man, do i LOVE that website.
3rd for yelp. i have found great places to eat and stay in san francisco and new york thorugh yelp.
I was in Pittsburgh this past weekend visiting. One word of advice is don't try to use cabs to get around. There seemed to be almost none, and I had to wait an hour for the first cab, and 20 minutes for the 2nd cab (the 2nd cab was called by a bellman at the Westin downtown). Not sure what their cab situation is there, but it is not good.
I was not overly impressed by the nightlife situation either, but I may of just picked the wrong spots to go to.
That being said, Ikea was cool, the hotel was cheap (doubletree downtown), and the Andy Warhol museum was well put together and fairly large (and had a pretty good cafe in the basement too).
And bring a map! It's by far the most confusing city I've ever driven around in. God help you if you're trying to drive around on one of the "belts" that snake through the mountains in the 'burbs. There's an unmarked fork in the road every quarter mile.
I go to Pgh often b/c we have an office there. I always stay at the Hilton downtown b/c it's just right after the tunnel and easy to park. My co-workers have taken me to some great bars on the south side. Fatheads has 100 beer taps. You could just walk up and down Carson Street and duck into tons of little places. I hear Shadyside and Squirrel Hill are cool but haven't been to either.
ok, just called one of my friends who lives there.

Thank you kindly.
I dont know if you've ever been to IKEA before, if its anything like the one in NJ you'll need to bring a snack and a GPS to get out alive.
I think it took me 4 hours and $400 to make my way through

Why Pitt for Ikea instead of Canton? We've made the drive up there in the morning, a whole day of Ikea, and a drive back that same night several times.
edit: Holy crap, I just google mapped it and Pittsburgh is CLOSER? Weird. Didn't quit realize that.
Yeah...the drive to Pittsburgh is cake...I've made it in 2hr40min in a driving rain storm. You'd be amazed how fast people get the hell out of the left lane when they see a full size chevy barreling down on them at speed...in the rain.
they don't move so much out of the way for my escape.
What about Cleveland and Cincy's version of CU?
I have been lurking on urbanohio recently and thinking that site needs more representation from Columbus.

I thought the same thing as well when I've been on that site, but I naturally assumed that our lack of participation is probably due to the fact that there are a lot of local sites and blogs that cover ONLY Columbus "urbanism", so why go to another site when ultimately you care more about what goes on in your cities instead of others?
I found the same thing to be true on another site (the name is slipping my mind at the moment) that covers urban matters on a national level. Ohio in general was missing in participation while other smaller states had loads. I attribute this to UrbanOhio already having a strong regional following.

The Pittsburgh Ikea is one of the smaller ones I've been to (I think only Ottawa is smaller among the ones I've been in)...but it is the closest one, at least until West Chester opens next year.
Yeah, I thought it was small too. The only other one I've been in is the Atlanta store, but it was much bigger.
I'd never been to Ikea before last weekend, and I thought it was pretty damn big. I guess maybe I just don't have anything to compare to.
