I know this is sentimental, but I'm old now, so I can be as sentimental as I want ;)

What was the best "Christmas/Hannukah/Kwaanzaa/whatever you enjoy celebrating" present(s) you ever got? Your Red Rider BB Gun, if you will. How old were you? Do you still have it and if not what happened to it?

*6 yo, first bicycle, caught my Dad, aka "Santa" assembling it in the basement. So much for Santa. Rode that thing til I was 12.

*15 yo, Velvet Underground boxed set. Played every one of those CDS until they looked like they had been chewed by dogs. Eventually lost all of them and bought them all again several times over.

Hard to tell which one I got more mileage out of!

A Lego airport set that cost around $100. I couldn't believe I got it because I knew how much it cost, and I didn't think anyone would spend that much on a Christmas present for a kid.

Mine has got to be the desk my dad bought and refinsihed for me when I was about 10. It's really a beautiful piece of furniture, my dad did an awesome job on it, and I still use it every day. But the best part was how my parents gave it to me.

A few days before Christmas, my mom told me my dad had clogged the toilet in one of the bathrooms, and to not go in there. She made it out to be toxic-spill-level bad, so I even held my held my nose every time I walked by. We opened all our presents on Christmas morning, and then my parents said it was time to get to work. They strapped oven mitts on me and gave me a slotted spoon and a pair of tongs and told me I had to go unclog the toilet. I complained and moaned and finally, I acquiesced. They pried open the bathroom door, and there was the desk! Best Christmas ever!

One that sticks out as one of my favorites was when I was 10 years old and really into He-Man and his cast of characters. I got his "Castle of Greyskull".

Yep! It was as awesome as it looks!

Gameboy was killer for me.

I got that and a NES the same year and as cool as the NES was, it didn't beat the portability & fun being able to go over to friend's houses to figure out how to beat games. I used it all the way through middle school until it finally broke. Favorite game was the Metroid one.

After that it has been mostly socks and underwear (which I've come to rely upon every year).

I was given one of those weaved together blankets that are reversible. It is blue and white and has horses on it. Probably when I was 8? I still have it and use it, although it gets smaller and smaller as the strings come out of it.

Like vestanpeace my best gift was the original Nintendo.
My mom wasn't able to get one in time for Christmas day - so my siblings and I pooled together the $100 we received as gifts (or was it $200?) and ordered it from Service Merchandise. I know it was backordered and it seemed like it took 3 months to get there - but it was probably more like 3 weeks.

Anne, I have a similar blanket from when I was a child and if my house were on fire, after I saved my child that blanket would be next in line :)

OMG, can't believe I forgot to mention my teddy bear, Mr. Brown, received at 3 yo and still protecting me from scary stuff even to this day.

Also, I believe my cat Purrogi was a Christmas gift for my daughter, but was really the best thing to ever happen to anyone, ever.

Mine would have to be the Swiss Army knife I got as a young adult. I didn't ask for it and I have no idea why my grandma decided to get it for me, but I was so excited about it and always fondly recall it being one of my favorite Christmas gifts!

That's my childhood in a nutshell. A fun Easter story involved my mom flinging a ham off the back porch, then hosing it off after she cooled off and sticking it in the oven.
