Ride a streetcar?

yeah. i'm definitely looking forward to seeing how well streetcars work in a smaller city.
Powell's books
Very Neat, old school bookstore. One of the best I've ever been to.
I don't remember anything else specific
but downtown Portland is great place to just hang out and spend some time.

i was actually in the book loft yesterday checking out travel books for portland and there was a whole book dedicated to bookstores in portland. seems like they have an obsession with books. i'll definitely try to stop by here.
All right,
Things that have been drawn to my attention so far:
- Microbrews... I don't know how big of a beer lover you are, but I've been to a lot of places and NEVER had the quality of beer you can get in the Northwest, and mostly, ALL of it comes from Oregon. I'd stop in at these breweries to get something tasty:
Full Sail
McMenamins (The hammerhead ale and the Terminator Stout are so good, that my dad used to drive down there when I was a kid to pick up mason jars full of it)
Portland Brewing Company
Widmer (pretty famous hefeweizen comes out of there)
and Rogue Ales (home of Dead Guy Ale)
- Strip clubs... Ok, so this may not be your cup of tea, but a little known fact about Portland is that it has more strip clubs per capita than ANY other city in the US (including Vegas).
- "Alexi's"... It's on restaurant on burnside, right by the bridge. It has great food AND has old school type belly dancers.
- Willamette Valley wine... Drink it. Drink as much as you flippin can. This area of the US has been on such a fast rise for producing some of the best reds that you can get since 2003, that extremely nice restaurants are taking notice and charging an assload for it. Get it there, where it is cheap.
- Parks...
Mount Tabor is a park situated right in the middle of the city and it's an extinct volcano. You can literally walk right up the crater and look at a cross section of it.
Council Crest is a great place to see the whole city
Waterfront Park is right on the river
The gorge.. which is like 20 minutes away and hosts some pretty awesome waterfalls: multnomah falls and crown point.
- Yeah, take the max wherever you can. Pronounce it "Organ" not "Or-e-gone." That drives people fucking insane. Eat Tillamook cheese and wonder why anybody else in the country claims to have good cheese, and yeah.. enjoy yourself. I'll find some good venues for indie rock shows in the area too.
Oh... and check out http://www.wweek.com/
They've got lots of good stuff in there.
They've got a Nordstrom Rack downtown...
...Yes I like to go to chain discount department stores when I travel.
Yeah I was in Portland about a year ago and went to Mary's All Nude Review at Burnside and Broadway in Downtown. It was an inexpensive strip club with genuinely attractive girls in a wierd 'Larry's" like setting.
Take you bicycle. Portland is like Columbus in that the inner city is really great for cycling. Look out for those damn streetcars- your wheels might get caught in the tracks!!!!
also, this is going on while you're there:
