Everyone's favorite xenophobes are coming to picket an Central Ohio H.S.

Hilliard school officials sent an e-mail alert to parents today, alerting them of the group's protest scheduled from 7:10 to 7:40 a.m. on May 10.

"While the group does have the right to gather in protest as well as free speech, they will NOT be exercising that right on school grounds," Hilliard Darby Principal Ryan McClure wrote. "We have been in contact with the Hilliard Police Department, who will be available that morning for support if needed."

On its website, Westboro Baptist Church, based in Topeka, Kan., says it plans to picket outside the school, "where the parents and teachers teach Rebellion 101."

I went to the WBC website to try to figure out what specifically attracted them to the school. This is what they have:

"WBC will picket the worthless brats at Darby High School where the parents and teachers teach Rebellion 101. Your moral compasses have been shattered by this nation's lies, chiefly that God is blessing america despite her proud, rebellious sin and idolatry."

More lunacy on the website, but it has nothing to do with the school. I think they must throw a dart at the map and protest anywhere it hits.

In an ideal world, we would not pay any attention to them. They piss me off, but that is what they want. It would be great if everyone (including the media) just ignored them. Just like a rash, they would eventually go away. Maybe Columbus can be the start of the 'we don't really care' campaign.

If they're hoping to accomplish anything, they might want to explain what they're protesting. Especially when their signs always say the same things. Some student at the H.S. probably wrote them an email they didn't like or something.

I like the San Francisco signs.

I think Brandon, Mississipi has San Fran beat:

A couple of days before, one of them (Westboro protestors) ran his mouth at a Brandon gas station and got his arse waxed. Police were called and the beaten man could not give much of a description of who beat him. When they canvassed the station and spoke to the large crowd that had gathered around, no one seemed to remember anything about what had happened.

Most of the morons never made it out of their hotel parking lot. It seems that certain Rankin county pickup trucks were parked directly behind any car that had Kansas plates in the hotel parking lot and the drivers mysteriously disappeared until after the funeral was over. Police were called but their wrecker service was running behind and it was going to be a few hours before they could tow the trucks so the Kansas plated cars could get out.

I don't totally agree with it but the protest on the part of WBC are pretty ugly. I just saw this posted elsewhere the other day and thought I would share.

I don't think blocking their cars rises to the level of supression of speech. They could have "spoken" at the hotel(s) if they were stuck there, and perhaps they did.

The right of free speech s not absolute. Disrupting memorial services of those who have fallen for our country, just to promote themselves and insult every community they visit, carries no redemming value and does no good.
