Wendy's Stages a Palace Coup

Burger King, the perennial No. 2 in the burger wars, is about to be beaten out by a pigtailed girl. Wendy's Co. is poised to pass Burger King Holdings Inc. in U.S. sales, trailing only industry behemoth McDonald's Corp., in the first reordering of the industry-leading trio since Wendy's was founded in 1969.

I'm surprised so many people still eat at Burger King. Most of their restaurants look like they haven't been renovated in many, many years. Not to mention most of their food is quite bad.

I tried the W the other day and was pretty pleased, combined with better fries its definitely a move up.
That said, I still dig a whopper on occasion.

I don't eat much fast food these days, but the new Wendy's store model on Bethel has been pretty tempting lately. When I did eat more fast food, Wendy's was always my choice over McDonald's (downright nasty) and Burger King (mostly just gross).
It looks like Wendy's has been making all of the right moves recently to remain competitive, whereas Burger King has been stumbling around and struggling now for awhile. Even McD's seems to be trying to improve the quality of their food and image to meet changing times and tastes. If Burger King wants to survive, they are going to have to set themselves apart as something more than a generic alternative to McDonald's--of the 1980s.

Are they still running those commercials? I thought that campaign was like 5 years ago?
They definitely boosted laughs in the 15-25 Male demographic. Not sure if that translated to burger sales though...

No, but that's the point. The thing I remember about BK isn't how they "do it your way", it's now how their mascot might be peering in my ground floor windows.

Wendy's dethrones Burger King but Five Guys grows fastest

The restaurant industry’s royal line of succession has shifted, with Wendy’s usurping Burger King as the second-largest sales-getter behind McDonald’s. In its annual ranking of U.S. restaurants, research group Technomic Inc. placed McDonald’s – with its 5.5% boost to $34.2 billion in annual sales – first among the 500 largest eatery chains in the country. Next came Subway, which grew 7.5% over the year and then Starbuck’s, whose sales spiked the same percentage. Wendy’s placed fourth, with $8.5 billion in sales, followed by Burger King’s $8.4 billion.

The new W burger is my new favorite for price/taste. Reminds me of the "old" double-stack. However McDonald's quality control really impresses me, and far exceeds Wendy's. The bag is always neatly folded, keeping the hotness in the bag. Burger King just seems a bit lost...it's a tough market.

The thing that always got me to the Burger King drive thru? Frozen coke. It's one of my favoritest treats, a throwback to the Icees of my childhood. I know other places have them, but they jack up the syrup/frozee mixture - Burger King's is always just right.
I used to love their "chicken" sandwich, the one that is on a mini-sub bun? But the last time I got one while travelling it was flat out disgusting. Or maybe it was always disgusting and I'm just now noticing.
