With all this Weinland Park discussion happening, I realized that I haven't seen any mention of the new Veggie Van delivery that's going on. (Someone, Berdawn?, mentioned wanting local produce in the neighborhood and I thought, "Oh, snap! Let me post that.")
The program just started this past week and is a great opportunity for anyone in the WP area to get local produce at a great price. Majority of it is local/regional, fresh and much is organic. Orders must be submitted by Weds. for the next week's Tuesday drop-off; the farmers pick & deliver on Thursday and Friday; they pack the bags over the weekend, then deliver on Tuesday. (Our pickup time is Tues. 4-5:00). When you pick up the bag, you can try a sample of the recipe they've made that day with the produce.
Last week's bag had:
4 oranges
a big bag of green beans (at least a pound)
4 sweet potatoes
2 onions
garlic
2 bunches of kale (a good amount)
a bag of grapes
a large bag of carrots
Anyone can signup to purchase the bag & it doesn't have to be ongoing (i.e. it can be done week-by-week, you can email every two weeks, whatever, depending on how fast you eat it up). You can pay with cash, debit, or EBT card at the time of pickup.
If you'd like to sign up, email yolanda.moser@godmanguild.org. If you know friends & neighbors who would be interested, spread the word! They can also just stop in at the Godman Guild -- there's a physical signup sheet hanging inside the front.
