Weiland’s new owners should be familiar to community

After celebrating its 50th anniversary earlier this year, Weiland’s Gourmet Market and its owners have decided a little change is in store. But don’t expect much to change.

The community grocery, 3600 Indianola Ave., is under new management as of today. The husband-and-wife team of Scott Bowman and Jennifer Williams have taken over as Tim Teegartin retires and sells his interests to them. Terms were not disclosed.

I hope the new owners will keep (maybe even expand) the excellent liquor selection.

Last time I talked to Weiland’s liquor store manager, he said that he had just met with higher-ups at the liquor commission about Ohio expanding the availability of more varieties of distillates. I’m hoping for the best, but my expectations are low.

I love this store and it's so convenient, right in the neighborhood! I'd be so sad if anything happened to it. Although I do agree about expanding the hours!!

They should get rid of all of their traditional shopping carts and get those double stacker ones.

That is not the kind of place you need a giant shopping cart.

Good news. I would love to see an effort to grab more produce/meat/poultry from local farmers. Also, STAY OPEN PAST 7:30 FOR CRISSSAKES!!!

I love Weiland's! I've shopper here religiously for so many years. Excited to hear about what's next.

Hope all of the wonderful staff stays. I'm a big fan of all of them, especially Bob in the meat department and Dan the cashier. They make every visit special.

I would love to see an overhaul of the produce at Weilands. It's the only thing that holds me back on making regular grocery trips there. But we do often avail ourselves of the beverage departments - they have great a great liquor store, good wine selection, and cheapest Snowville milk around.

Weiland’s Gourmet Market has evolved considerably during the last half-century. When John Williams and George Weiland opened the market in 1961, it primarily sold meat. A few years later, the business moved to Indianoloa Avenue and Garden Road, where more groceries were added, as well as a deli, a produce department, and catering services. After relocating to its current 15,000-square-foot home at 3600 Indianola Ave. in 1999, Weiland’s expanded its offerings even further.

The "new" owners - especially Jennifer have been great to work with. They have worked with several local food purveyors such as Hot Pita and LuLu's to get their products on the shelves.
