I do have an oyster knife and can shuck them need be, but who has the best oysters in town? I'm going to North Market and getting some from The Fish Guys and shaving fennel bulb with lemon juice and sea salt on them but any restaurants in town knock your socks off with raw oysters?

Oh man it has been so long since I have had any. Oysters and hot sauce instant craving.
The last time I had them was at the Ocean Club.Posted 2 years ago # -

Ahem.

Wow. You are really missing out.
I haven't had them, but I hear Deepwood has em and they are tasty. The ones I got at Weiland's were fab, and I haven't had em in FORRRRREVER, but I had good ones at the Mitchell's Fish Market or whatever although I don't like that place in general at all.
Ugh. That sounds so good now.Posted 2 years ago # -
The Top has done oysters well if I recall correctly.

The more I think about it, I'm positive I've gotten some great oysters at the bar at The Top and they weren't the oysters rockefeller that are on their menu, but fresh raw ones...likely a special I imagine.

I've been to the Fish Guys at North Market about a dozen times. Every time I look at the fish they are so past fresh I pass. I've pretty much resigned myself to no fresh fish in Columbus unless I go to some place like the Columbus Fish Market or Mitchell's Ocean Club.
I'd recommend those two.Back when I lived in Florida I used to go to the original Hooters and enjoy 10 cent oysters. [fun fact: In Hooters first expansion try they opened two other places called 'Juggs' and 'Melons']

I had them at Deepwood (and thought they were good) - I think they have them on their happy hour bar menu.

Upon Hungrywoolf's recommendation, we explored Frank's Fish and Seafood Market in Hilliard off of Trabue Road. It was an interesting place and had a nice variety of frozen items at very good prices. They also had a 'fresh' counter that was sufficient. Everything was filleted and cleaned, which I'm not a fan of because I think you lose some freshness and it's harder to judge the quality of the product. In addition, they only had one kind of fresh oysters that were unlabeled. We asked and were told from Maryland which I assume means the Chesapeake. The prices were what made this place. 0.89 cents per oyster. I also got a dozen frozen whelk, which I've never had.

They had at least two kinds the last time I was at Weilands...same price. And then I got home and almost stabbed my hand off.

Guys are better at it. They seem to have that muscle more developed than women.I've been developing that muscle for much of my life.

Funny you should say that...I got about two of them open well and then it was Mr. Blammo that had to handle the rest. :) I think the hardest part was finding the entrance point on the shell. I thought it would be much more obvious than it was. I felt like I was guessing most of the time. If Tenzo or Merc cares to ever put on a shucking class, I'd be an eager student for sure.
