Columbus Musicians Taking Stage with Southern Showcase
COLUMBUS, OHIO – The innovative and irreverent soul of Columbus’ music scene will be on display to the world via Austin, Texas on March 16, thanks to the hard work and determination of more than a dozen local bands and solo performers.
“We are so excited to bring Columbus music to back to Austin for a second year,” said Andy Shaw, an event organizer. “The 2011 showcase was such a success and such an incredible experience; we can’t wait to make it even better as we highlight the spirit of Columbus’ arts community.”
Under the banner of “We Are Columbus – Ohio By Southwest,” the group of local musicians and volunteers are packing up their gear and planning their route to the Treehouse Bar in Foos, where they will perform a full day-long showcase of the Columbus sound.
"South By Southwest is the center of the independent music universe, if you're an indie band, you dream of being there. By working together, we can make that dream a reality for a great group of people who represent the diverse music scene of Columbus," said Andrew Dodson (Wonderland/Central City Recording), who helped organize and attended the showcase last year.
The “We Are Columbus - Ohio By Southwest” event will be held on Friday, March 16, 2012 during Austin’s world-renowned SXSW music festival. Local performers will take over the Treehouse Bar for a one-day-only event from 1PM until 2AM.
The “We Are Columbus” effort is volunteer-driven, with each band helping make the trip possible and local music fans helping at every step of the way with donated time, talent, equipment and funds.
"I think the teamwork and unity from all of the people involved was more than awesome. This is more than just a band and a show, this is a team effort that highlights the passion of Columbus music scene.” said Jacob Wooten, owner of Kobo, who also helped organize the 2011 shows. “Musicians fell into their roles without any drama and everyone that helped out really took ownership of the event."
The full lineup of musicians will be announced on January 11th, 2012
Columbus’ events are also planned to send the team off and help cover travel costs, including band showcases on February 25th at Ace of Cups at 2629 North High Street, and an online Kickstarter fundraising campaign. Both are open to the public and all proceeds go to support the “We Are Columbus – Ohio By Southwest Showcase.”
