Any idea what is going to go on at this Open House? Cheese and crackers?

Via Greg from Watershed:
We are holding an open house this Friday, December 10th, at Watershed Distillery from 6-9pm. We plan to have gin rolling off the still. Although we cannot serve booze at the distillery, we will have it available at a local bar following the event. Check out our website for directions to Watershed Distillery. See you there!

I met with Greg the other day about some different promotion ideas for Watershed's gin & vodka at Taj Bar (we're going to carry it) and maybe a bartending contest using mostly local ingredients, and he mentioned the distillery open house. Since I'm shorthanded tonight, I've got to bartend but I was so jacked to hear about all of this. I really enjoy their stuff, and Greg is a class act. Anyone who goes is gonna have a great time.

I stopped in the liquor store on South High (which I'm going to start calling the Columbus Commons Liquor Store) to possibly pick up a bottle of their Vodka, but they didn't have it. It is on their locations map though. Will have to try again later, or try somewhere else. Excited to try it out!

Gin 27.65
Vodka 24.30@Weiland's. Am guessing they sell at State Min, but haven't confirmed.

The open house was nice. The owners were very friendly and talked to me and my friends for a good amount of time. We promply went to the liquor store to buy some bottles. Both were very good and they are now empty bottles.

I love the gin, and the vodka is a really solid one that doesn't overwhelm you any one way or another.

I just got to try the gin last night at Mouton. The bartender gave me a tiny taste after I struck up a conversation about it. I'm not much of a gin drinker, and the smell is always overpowering, but the taste of Watershed's gin is much more subdued. It's floral and fruity without being overly potent on the piney juniper flavor.
Looking forward to trying out their Vodka when I get a chance. I know they're working on aging some whiskey for next year as well. ;)

For gin, which is about the botanical elements, isn't the lack of those a flaw?

I have no idea. I don't usually drink gin.

I found it very nice, a little on the sweet side, very open and simple botanicals which is why it's probably more accessible.
Recommendation based on my taste:
+1 Bombay Saphire

when's the local distillery throwdown?
Can't wait to try it.

I've got a big plan for a bartending contest coming up with Watershed at Taj Bar, and the emphasis is going to be on using as many local ingredients as possible. It's gonna be a lot of fun. We're looking forward to it.
Does that count as a throwdown?

Does that count as a throwdown?yes, but I was more thinking about MWS vs. Watershed :)
