We have a walnut tree and I want to harvest some of the walnuts that fall every year. Every year they fall and, not knowing how to harvest, they basically go to waste. Does anyone have any tips, suggestions, how-to, etc. on how to harvest these?

Just sayin. Will keep that in mind; it's a huge tree and I know even when sharing w/ the squirrels out back we'll have plenty to go 'round. Though you may have to come help us collect/process/cure some of them.

I'd be willing to work for walnuts.

We've got the same problem/opportunity. My dog thinks they're tennis balls.

I like nuts. I just can't hide it.

Like osulew up there, I too would be willing to take some of those walnuts of your hands and relieve you of that burden. For those that haven't tried it, baking / roasting rosemary with walnuts is a divine treat.

Sorry for the short answer earlier.
You need to be certain that you harvest the walnuts as soon as they hit the ground otherwise they end up rotting/going rancid super quick.
If you feel comfortable, try getting a rope around one of the upper end branches and shaking the tree with it to get the near ripe ones.

They do seem to go bad fairly fast and, like joev, our dog tends to play around w/ them once they've fallen.
