Hi,
My big brother is visiting from Boston, and he wants to take his friend to a bar and/or restaurant tonight (friday). He's in his mid 40s, but acts more like he's in his late 20s!
What would be an interesting place for them to imbibe? A place where they can sit down, has music that's not so loud you can't hear yourself, and is visually interesting?

for his age, maybe frog bear, bar louis, eleven at hyde park, press grill, bodega, park street patio, bar 23, novak's. some of these places aren't visually pleasing as far as the bar goes but more for the women that are in them. enjoy.

I might rescind my recommendation of Betty's Bar. It's kind of a "I change my own oil" kind of place.
Or in cyclist's case a "I fix my own flats" kind of place.

There's always this place:
I rarely go to bars on the weekend, weekends are for house parties. I know some of those that your brother will probably have more fun at and save alot of money.
For bars, well, Ruby Tuesdays is pretty cool and there is always a show.

In all sincerity, I think I've got your night planned out for you:
First stop - Burgundy Room. Good drink, good food, nice atmosphere. A little swank/hip, nice eye candy for both sexes. If he's here on business, it's a good place to blow an expense account.
Second stop - 185. Lots of blow dried types to chat with there, usually hopping. A nice, well worn place... like Cheers (that was Boston, right?), but nobody will know nor care about your name (yet they'll still be glad you came). Moderately priced.
and finally... for an 'only in Columbus' experience...
Go to the Hey Hey in German Village. Short hop from Club 185, Gritty dive-y fun. I've ended more than a few nights there, it's a trip. And cheap!

There are more house parties every night than there are bars and clubs. I bet there will be at least 2,000 house parties tonight in Columbus, probably 4,000 tomorrow with the game and all.
