VENT: Why I hate 4th of July

In a nutshell I hate this weekend of the year for one main reason: backyard fireworks. Haven't we as a society outgrown the need to make big booms happen? I admit I thought it was kind of cool as a kid. But now I cannot stand it... as soon as it starts getting a hint of sunset, it starts. Every five minutes some idiot is setting off firecrackers, bottle rockets and other noise makers and this goes on in my neighborhood until the wee hours of the morning for several days leading up to the 4th.
Can't we all just enjoy the professional shows put on all over the city and suburbs? Why must we annoy the entire populace with incessant noise, not too mention torture poor dogs and other pets? It's not cool people.

Wow, I'm glad I don't live in your neighborhood, or married to you...What a bore!
You sound a little like my friends neighbors; they are 70 and snowbirds in Florida 1/2 the year.
Well, this year, they were home for Memorial Day and we had a few people over; maybe 8-10 people.
After our cookout and water balloon tosses, slip and slide, etc...They came to them a few days afterward and announced that they could have people over as planned b/c we were having people over. Get a freakin' life.
People today are way too concerned about what other people are doing; mind your own business and let people live...And you wonder why workplaces have become so boring the past 20 years; everyone is afraid someone is looking over their shoulder and afraid to do anything.
Yuck.

Yeah, fireworks are fun! I think it's totally fine for people to get it out of their systems once a year. If people were doing this junk year round I'd consider it to be childish, but a few tiny explosions once a year shouldn't upset anyone. :shock:

I agree that fireworks going off at 2am are pretty annoying, but it's just one of those things you come to expect around July 4th (and sometimes around New Years as well, depending on the weather).
It's usually not too bad, disturbance wise, and with the windows closed and the AC on it's pretty tough to hear them anyway. It also helps that I'm a pretty heavy sleeper...

Yeah, I think people thumping loud music from their cars in the middle of the night is higher on my list of annoyances than fireworks a few days out of the year. :?

Just because you're not a kid, or don't enjoy fireworks anymore, doesn't mean that others should follow along with you. Just like you used to enjoy them, there are lots of kids out there that do now.

I love the 4th of July weekend. Being 27, I love letting off fireworks(ofcourse being safe). You can be an adult and have fun with fireworks. For once a year, you are upset that people want to let off fireworks? Not to say anything bad about you but damn, have fun. Its once a year. People get together for cookouts, fireworks, and just to be with friends and family and you are bitching about people letting off fireworks on the 4th of July weekend. :?
What do you do for the 4th then? Sit on your ass and complain? enjoy it. have fun. everyone has a right to vent but to really complain about the 4th of July and people letting off fireworks and having a good time is a little bit out there to vent about. Of course, letting off fireworks around midnight or beyond is a little bit disrespectful to the neighbors but i just tell myself, its the 4th of July and i just ignore it at that point.
All I can say is have fun with whatever you do.

Can't you just hear her saying it, in the whiney voice, "You know what bothers me? Those damn 4th of July celebrators. I'm trying to read a nice quite book and my neighbors keep laughing and playing that loud rock n' roll music, setting off those damn firecrackers. All I want is some peace and quiet on my day off."

Wow, she's getting an earful! I don't know if we should be burning her alive here, but I do agree with the rest of the sentiments. It's once a year, try letting it roll off of your back. As corny as it sounds, when I notice myself getting bent out of shape about something I think maybe isn't such a big deal, I just smile. While it isn't a miracle cure or anything, it's not that easy to be upset when you are smiling. And I mean a genuine smile, not the "I hate your guts but I work for you so I can't tell you" kind of smile we all know well :lol:
