But Aaron Shocket, whose valet company Parking Solutions Inc. works with several Short North restaurants, said the city benefits, too, because valet businesses cater to suburban customers who might not venture into the neighborhood if they had to hunt for parking.
Insert generic pro-urban anti-suburban comment here. I'm too busy to think one up at the moment.

So are valet companies going to stop doing business because they have to work deals with private lots now? I don't think this was ever about questioning the value of valets, just the practice of them taking up public spots to conduct their business. For example, it's only fair for them to have to pay that lot across from Tip Top (since both parties are profiting from parking) and give us back the meters!

I used to work for a valet company in Columbus a few years back. I think this is a good idea. I used to work at Martinis every once in awhile and we would put the cars by the meters on High St. They are easy to retrieve and they take up spots so that the patrons have to valet. Meters are a win-win for the valets but not for the public.

I'm sure my beat up 2001 Corolla will look great parked right out front of Hyde Park on The Cap

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCHCity officials have proposed another valet-parking plan that they say will make it a fair fight between people who'd rather find their own spots and those who'd rather pay someone else.
Valet services in the Short North, German Village, Downtown and other nightspot-heavy areas would be banned from parking customers' vehicles at public meters or in city-run lots.

It will be interesting to see how well this is enforced. I have seen some brazen valet parking in my day.

How could this possibly make any difference in German Village?

This makes me a little happy I think. You know I had to come pick something up on Gay st. a while back and I was only going to be about five minutes. Anyway I get out drop a dime in the meter and the valet at due Amici said you can’t park there this is our spot now. That is not the first time I have been blocked by a valet but it really irks me when they do that. Once in the Arena District I parked at a meter fed it only to walk about a block away and have a Valet chase me down to tell me I had to move my car or they would tow it. It did not have one of those orange bags on it. I suppose I should be happy he let me know instead of just towing it. I am glad to see I am not the only one and people have taken notice.
