i'm taking a break from packing/moving my kitchen and am astounded by how much kitchen crap we have. some of the stuff we haven't used in the past year (especially the doubles: clay pots, dutch ovens, casserole dishes, etc) but will need to hold onto (when we get separate places again). other stuff just doesn't justify the hauling.
my biggest kitchen gadget peeve: george foreman grills.

I have a love/hate relationship with the potato peeler. On one hand, I need it because I am clumsy and apt to slice a finger off using a knife. On the other hand, it becomes clogged with skins and annoying very quickly.
+1 on the George Foreman. I hate those things.

I have a love/hate relationship with my wife's kitchen aid mixer. I love when it's being used to make something, I hate when it's just sitting on my counter, taking up space, unused.

for a while I had a device that when you placed a large onion into it would cut it into a big flower shape which you could then dip into batter and deep fry
have you ever tried to dip a large sliced up onion flower into batter and get it into hot oil without losing most of the batter to the floor and burning yourself with hot oil?
I tried it twice. It was then removed from my kitchen as being totally useless. It is far easier to go buy the finished product.
On the other hand, I have a device which will turn potatos into fries when pressed. This has received a LOT of use. I only wish it was larger.
I also own a bread machine. Now... I have heard a lot of people say they have one they have used once or twice and are thinking of throwing it away as being useless. I do not understand those people. Mine is probably close to worn out. In fact it is in operation right now as I type this. It does a wonderful job, and if you take the bread out before it bakes you can put it into a loaf pan and get a normal shaped loaf of really good bread for the cost of a few cups of flower and some yeast.
I have never owned a Foreman Grill. I like grease and wouldn't want it to run off.

I love the Foreman-like grill that my parents handed off to me. A lot larger than a Foreman grill and has the removable plates. Great for those long days at work, when you are no mood to cook. I just get a pot of water boiling and toss some pasta in and heat some sauce. Meanwhile the grill is preheating and I throw some frozen chicken on it. 6-7 minutes later the pasta is done, the chicken is golden and delicious. Quick, simple meal.

I have two that didn't come with it. A juicer attachment, for when I'm in the mood for a homemade margarita. It makes short work of limes. My favorite attachment is the ice cream maker. I've made some really good stuff with that one. Healthy-er and non-healthy delicious treats.

I don't want to judge it 'useless' yet, but last summer after reading some great reviews I bought a corn kernel remover. It's gorgeous in form and I admit that's partly why I got it. The function part, I'm not so sure. It's a cob-sized half moon with little teeth on the concave side intended to make quick neat work shearing kernels from the cob. I've never quite got the hang of it, though.
All cooks know how kernels fly when a sharp knife and cutting board are used. But using a bowl to catch the kernels isn't ideal either, and sometimes I want to de-kernel a dozen ears for soup or freezing and the tool seemed like a great idea. If anyone has any tricks for using this dude let me know:

In defense of the potato peeler:
I tend to use ours mainly as a cheese shaver. You can make some paper thin parm cheese slices for use as a topping or on hors d'oeuvres .

I just wanted to give a quick shoutout to the Apple Peeler/Corer/Slicer. A very single-use device, but amazingly fun to watch in action. Anne makes (award winning) Apple pies pretty regularly, so I feel like this gets a lot of use to justify being in our kitchen arsenal. Speeds up her prep-time probably 10-fold.

I actually use mine a lot, mostly for egg rolls though so it's not all bad.
Although Ben DeVoe tried to deep fry one of everything in my apartment with it a couple of years ago...that wasn't pretty.
