What a game. We played classic US counterattacking soccer. Donovan was immense. The defense was swarming. Howard made the stops he needed to. Spain had the edge just about everywhere except where it counted.
I am really looking forward to the rematch against Brazil. I am planning on catching this one down at Claddagh.

Watching the final yesterday I don't know about you guys.. but even when they were up 2 - 0 it looked like only a matter of time before they got beat.
the US pretty much played what they call in american football prevent defense. Prevent standing for prevent you from winning.
shows the spain game was a fluke. (ok tell me it wasn't)
Oh and the other thing I took form that game is Brazil needs a goal keeper. That guy was awful.

We came out strong, but as our players got tired we just didn't have the depth on our bench to bring in fresh talent in the second half that would match Brazil...

Yeah, Brazil played a solid, even game and never let up. Howard was being over-worked and he's frustration showed several times. It was like the USA didn't come out of the locker room after the first half. We need to do a lot of work to be competitive for the World Cup next year. I am still hopeful we'll make a good showing.

After watching the U.S. take down Spain and force Brazil to make a heroic comeback for their win, I would say the U.S. has shown they are one of the big boys in international soccer, or at the very least they are fully capable.
I think this was an important showing for when the seeding happens for South Africa. While it's no guarantee of a "good" pool, I think these last 2 results have the potential to act as a reminder that maybe the US should be the 2nd team in its pool instead of the 3rd.

I wouldn't say the Spain game was a fluke. They beat Egypt 3-0 and beat Spain convincingly and was leading 2-0 at half time against Brazil. This team came together after the 3-0 game against Brazil and played some really good ball. I wouldn't say US is the elite but they are solid team that shows flashes of greatness. This is just a step in the right direction. Looking forward to W.C. next year.

Edit: I'd also like to point out that international scouts were probably paying attention to the USMNT (and probably US players in general) over the last week.. This will eventually mean more US players playing higher level soccer and more skill being brought back to national team play...

I thought the brazil sub Dani Alves played awful. He gave the ball up multiple times and took some sweet shots 20 feet over the goal. Maybe he did more off the ball that I missed... but I don;t think he was a factor.
also.. it was 4 to 2 really...

He did indeed bounce shit all around, but he was still ten times better to watch than Kljestan.. I thought the guy at the table behind us was going to chew off his arm when they put him in...
