milodesc wrote Hey all -I'm interested in finding some volunteer opportunities here in Columbus related to urban planning.
I've been toying with the idea of going to grad school for urban planning and figure volunteering would be a good way to get my feet wet.
Anyone have suggestions or ideas on where I should begin looking? Are there any committees worth joining?
I'm going to grad school for Urban Planning--just not here! :-/ However, if you're looking at OSU, they have a great program. It's my undergrad minor and I love it.
As far as committees and such, I'm really not familiar with too much here in the city. From everything I've seen, it's very communal and the best places to get involved are on the web (this site, for sure; my website (link below) has some Urban Planning stuff, but it's more general, not Columbus-specific).
My focus will be in Transportation Planning and Engineering, so the only committees I know of are all transportation based. The largest one I'm involved with is http://www.allaboardohio.org/cms/index.php which is certainly something to consider, if you're focused on improving transportation networks and such. Also, Walker was involved with the Streetcar initiative, he may be able to help you out with that too!
Personally, I've found it really helpful to network on this site and throughout OSU. With 52,000 students and an army for a faculty, the resources at OSU and Knowlton are incredible.
Hope this helps!
