We are trying to do this on our own. This is where you could give us a boost and support what (may) become a better, more streamlined, agile organization, which reaches out to groups like you for creative ideas.
I've seen some very constructive comments here. Even the negative ones are helpful to understand what we're up against.
Sat. July 26 7:30 at Vets, Alessandro Siciliani conducting. He's the awesome showman who was our music director for 12 years. The town loves him, and perhaps some of you do, too. TX are $20 at the door or $20+$2 surcharge to buy online at http://MCSConcerts.org There will be a party afterward right there in Vets, with cash bar and food.
Sat. August 2 7:30 at Vets, same tx prices, Junichi Hirokami, our (and becoming Columbus') beloved and charismatic genius with music. His live performances are something to watch, because he seems to paint the music as he conducts, helping the audience follow the varying emotions of the music.
Aug 17, Sunday, 3PM Ash Cave, Hocking Hills. If you've been to Ash Cave, you know how stunning a natural site it is for music, like a huge bowl shaped cathedral. The music will echo through the air into the trees, and hopefully people around the ares.

I'd make a real effort to attend. The hocking hills show sounds really interesting. It would make a great destination for a nice Sunday ride.
I'd also attend ANY show where film scores would be performed.

Very nice, especially the rustic outdoor venue. I like the air of creativity that seems to be coming from all the challenges.
Also, continue to keep us posted and reminded of these and other events. Reaching out in this way only further integrates you into the community.

Do whatever it takes! Oddly, I'm more excited about these performances than any of the previous ones. I guess Columbus loves its underdogs. Showing the perseverance to go it alone and play music no matter what it takes speaks volumes (to me, anyway) about the musicians' character and motivations.

You can add a flier to your original post here. No need to start up a second post for the same event, especially when you've already got some dialogue going here. :D

A former Columbus Symphony maestro is returning to the podium to lead the musicians in a "Light Classics" concert.
The performance Saturday represents a gift to the community, said Alessandro Siciliani, 56.
Siciliani, who served as music director from 1992 to 2004 and conductor laureate during the 2005-06 season, was asked by his former musicians.
"We're very happy he's leading the concert," oboist Stephen Secan said. "He's very popular here in central Ohio. He has quite a following. That's very attractive to us. He's got a very visceral, exciting style; he's fun to work for."

If he was fun to work for, you wouldn't have driven him out in the first place. The last thing Columbus needed was a meastro that doesn't speak English and lives on the other side of the planet. Classical music is a product difficult enough to sell these days. The last thing you needed was an albatross like Hirokami. You musicians deserve your fate.

Dispatch review below. Our friend DTclarinet gets a mention, as does spontaneity. Probably a coincidence, but I wonder if Barbara's been reading. (referencing this thread)
The Columbus Dispatch wrote Highlights included David Thomas' singing lines in the clarinet solo in the overture to La Forza del Destino, and oboist Stephen Secan's beautiful playing that graced the overture to La Cenerentola. But the whole first half was pleasing; overall, these opening selections exuded the kind of dramatic tension, fire and spontaneity that one has long identified with this maestro's conducting.

Bump for the concert at Ash Cave in Hocking Hills coming up this Sunday, 3 p.m.
The Musicians of the Columbus Symphony Concert Page wrote This concert will be held in the fantastic natural acoustics of Ash Cave. There will be a "Meet the Musicians" picnic in the shelter closest to Ash Cave starting at 12:30 pm.
Donations Accepted ($25 suggested donation)
Music TBA.
I plan to be there. Possibly staying at Hocking Hills the night before, if I'm feeling wild and crazy.

Wow. I hope that this can become an annual tradition. Two hours of music in a beautiful setting with weather that could not be improved upon.
The Jim Akins led Native American flute performance, in that setting, was special. A hush fell over the crowd throughout the piece.
This was my first musician led performance and it seemed like the musicians took ownership of what they played - like it was a 'who wants to play what?' style of setting the program. It would be really engaging to hear musicians playing whatever is holding their interest at the time - what's got their attention, preoccupying them? What have they been listening to/playing over and over lately? Maybe have some risk taking. I like the idea of mixing some smaller ensemble/solo/duet pieces in with the larger symphonic works.
But anyway, that space is wonderful. More, please.
