i'm intrigued by this being a general fan of the vampire myth, although not being a youngish girl, it is probably not my scene... i saw the star girl on letterman the other night, and your profile image could be a twin of the star... anyway... the opinion that i get is that the subtlety of the characters in the books in under represented in the film, and in general i really like character study films... is it your opinion this film is trying to superficially represent the books, while failing on getting into the detail of the characters?
i have had a lot of friends over the years recommend the anne rice vampire chronicles, but i have a feeling these books are a different bag
I have heard that in general, the fans of the movie/books are girls in their teens. However, I am 25 and my officemate is 37 and we both LOVE the books. So, does my mother (54).
I know movies never really live up to the books so I didn't go into the movie expecting an exact representation. I knew they would have to cut parts for time restrictions. However, I was just AMAZED about the things they did leave out.
The whole four book series is completely built around the relationship of Edward and Bella. It takes 300 pages of the first book for this relationship to build up to the height of their love/lust. In movie, it literally happens in less than 20 minutes. If I hadn't read the books, there would be no way I could have understood their relationship and how deep it was. The movie just made it seem like some normal highschool couple that somehow fell in love after meeting four times.
Again, I get time restrictions. But how could they cut the most important aspect of the whole series......and then add in scenes that were never in the book at all.
The parts they did include from the book did keep true. Its just the parts that they left out and fabricated that blew my mine.
I also understand that when making this movie it was not expected to a "phenomenom" and was generally low budget. That didnt bother me. But when they make the remakes I think they need to realize that some people are REALLY into these books and they need to put a little more detail in the sequals.
The Anne Rice noevls....I have read interview with the vampire. I am also currently reading the second one. You are right, they are a whole different ball game. But, its a great one. I definitely reccommned them.
I haven't seen the film yet, but inquiring minds want to know... did they make the vampires sparkly in sunlight? And as a fan of the books, what did you think of the casting?
I was entertained by Twilight (the book) but found that the rest of the series went downward pretty quickly, and I thought the last book was simply horrid. I read a lot of young adult novels, especially vampire ones, but I have to say that Twilight was not my favorite.
they did sparkle but it wasn't the kind that i had pictured
Rob Pattinson is exactly how i pictured Edward. But kristen steward is a little different than the Bella that I had in my mind.
