Has there ever been a discussion about bringing trolleybuses to Columbus? These are in heavy usage in places such as Seattle. They are super quiet and quick. With the population growth Columbus is experiencing, public transit is going to be in demand as our freeways begin to clog. Maybe trolleybuses can be the first step in trying to negotiate for a streetcar on High Street?

I think it might be nice on the heavily used high st corridor to lessen noise and pollution. I think though that COTA still needs to refine its routes and services and maybe hybrid buses are a better, more flexible, use of its resources for now.

I'm convinced Columbus just needs to grow in order to get more public transit options. Even suburban growth will cause more congestion on our highways and hopefully put more pressure on lawmakers to push for rail and a more comprehensive bus system.

I think someone other than a few public officials and a relatively small portion of the public needs to push for more transportation options. What I mean by that is that our corporate and developer communities need to push and make business reasons for building transit, and then our politicians on both sides will be listening. Just think of the business cost for supplying and maintaining parking facilities alone.
In the mean time, I agree that increased density will only make a stronger case for transit. I just hope that we dont wait so long to increase our options such that it detracts from the liveability in the urban neighborhoods as development is happening.

I seem to recall being at a meeting a few years ago where a COTA rep mentioned the idea of bringing "buses that look like trains" to Columbus.
I think the general consensus in the room was "why not just bring trains?"
