I'm putting my money on Jesse.

While Tom pimping for Diet Coke is distressing, the ad is f'ing hilarious not in the least for there being replicas of paraphernalia at Alinea.

I ate at Hector Santiago's place Pura Vida in Atlanta. Hands down one of my favorite dining experiences this year. The food and atmosphere both were awesome.

From this episode, we get further proof that all chefs are alcoholics?
Wolfgang is hilariously catty - and a point. I wish he would be judge every time.

A.+1 I love Wolfgang's voice. it's kind of like a male version of julia child, the way he has a lilting intonation. he just always sounds so happy, even when critiquing.

Solid first episode.
Coming off of a somewhat disappointing Season 5 it feels like they really went above and beyond in getting some stellar talent for this season. I was actually a bit giddy watching it.
Hope they manage to stick to real food challenges and keep away from some of the "twists and turns" of last season.

Definitely feels like the competitors this year are superior to most of the field in previous years. Most of all, aren't we just happy to have Padma back on our TVs???

This is entirely personal, but I'm glad I don't have to look at those ear holes any more. I know it's popular with the kids, but it scares me!
And yes, everyone is glad to have Padma back, but I'm most happy about Tom coming back in to my living room every week. Swoooon.

Eli trained under Richard Blais, and returned under his employment. What a great guy to work with - talented, patient, kind. I met him at last year's Top Chef tour at the North Market food and wine festival.
Eve stuck me as inexperienced and a bit ditsy, despite her training at Le Cordon Bleu. She added cream to "spice up her dish"? Not what would grab when I want to spice something up. First show jitters maybe?
Kevin and Jennifer may be culinary powerhouses. Kevin was a 2x James Beard recipient, and Jennifer seems to be on her game and showed great skills during the quickfire. But I think there needs to be a moratorium on ceviche. I'm tired of seeing it over and over, and it's a cheap win. Her $15,000 ceviche, that is.
I'm intrigued by Ashley. She grew up in New Hampshire and lives in Seattle. She has tattoos cursing up and down her arms. Her summer recipe was a softshell crab sandwich - I love her just for this alone.
Throat tattoo girl is gone. Ballsy entree in the seitan stuffed chile relleno. Almost anything else would have kept her from being eliminated, but seitan has an odd texture, kind of spongy. Spiced tofu or tempeh would have even worked, but not seitan.

+1 on the ceviche moratorium. Seriously.
I was really impressed by the casting this time around. This was the first time in a few seasons where I couldnt immediately tell who was going to be in the finals. Really looking fwd to this season.

I missed the first episode! From the bios on bravotv.com I can tell you that the Voltaggio brothers are going to be interesting. One is the exec chef at Zaytania in DC, its amazing, and one of the washington post critics all time favorite restaurants. VOLT in MD is less popular but still really good, the popularity might have something to do with the fact that its in frederick, which is NOT close to DC. Im excited for this season!

Why no love here for TC-LV?
The upper tier are truly talented in a way we've not seen before. Last night's top two dishes looked like they would not be out of place at top restaurants (and the judges appeared to think the flavor was commensurate.)
Good stuff.

I'm impressed with this season's cast as well. The brothers, Jennifer and Kevin seems like they are most consistent with their technique and creativity.

I always avoid this thread when I'm behind, and then when I catch up I forget to post my thoughts. Doh!
Anyway, I'm still loving this season. The challenges are solid and mostly gimmick-free (although the teaser for next week shows them cooking outside in the desert).
I agree with Andrew that the chefs who keep winning are looking better than a lot of what we've seen in seasons past.
I will say that I'm disappointed that so many of the female competitors this year seem so lackluster. Jennifer seems 10 times better than any of the other ladies on the show.
I'm currently rooting for her or Kevin to take it all the way. Although I can see Michael Isabella or either of the Volt Bros giving them a run for their money.

In each of the previous years, it wasn’t so much “being the best chefâ€Â, it was “not being the worst.†This year there is actually a competition for doing the best and most creative food, not just completing the challenge and having your food be edible. Kevin, the brothers, and Jennifer are crazy good, all of them just seem so focused and competent. Unless one of them has a total meltdown, they should be the top four.
