Anyone made the drive to Toledo to eat at Tony Packos? Sounds pretty interesting to me.

I've been up a couple of times. Pretty good if you're looking to get FULL! The chicken paprikash is really good, and the Hungarian hot dog is too big to finish. The owner and staff are extraordinarily nice, too. I like going because it's got that community feeling you can't fake. Last time I was there, there were a bunch of kids coming in with their families after their Confirmations, a bunch of old timers sitting at the bar and joking with the bartenders and a table of bluehairs celebrating something or other.
If you go up this summer, definitely check out a Mud Hens game. That's what I dream the new Clippers stadium will feel like. Their art museum blows Columbus' out of the water, too.
Stopped there on the way to Detroit for the Van Halen concert. Bad move. The food was delicious and filling…but you don't want to show up for a concert packed full of beans & chili and then dump a gallon or so of beer on it. We farted and belched our way through the concert, to the chagrin of all who stood near us.
I'd love to stop by again when I'm not headed to a show. The decor is really fun, there's a ridiculous amount of celebrity-signed items all over the restaurant. It was really a fun place, just watch your portions. I ordered too many starters and sides, and when the main course came, we were in over our heads.
Thanks to both of you! That's what I was looking for. I'll have to make the drive real soon.

OK...let's get real about Tony Packo's.
1) It's all bout the coney dogs, pickles and peppers.
2) The coney dogs, pickles and peppers are really really good
3) As alluded to above: the price you pay in methane and the "more garbage than groceries" paradigm should give reason for pause...but not avoidance.
Just yesterday a thoughtful coworker stopped by TPs and bought me a jar of pickles & peppers, a jar of chunky garlic dills and a can of "hot dog sauce".
If you see me tonight, extinguish all smoking materials.
Do yourself a favor - enjoy the Tony Packos experience and all that, by all means.
But if you're going to head up all that way anyways, check out this little, old-school, Hungarian grocer right down the street!
Frankly, I can't believe they have a website - that's a new development. ;)
Bring a cooler and bring home some fresh meats and cook up your own kolbasz, szalona, and paprikash!
Thanks for mentioning that. I'll definitely stop in. At least to get some Hungarian paprika.

Just a note.
Anderson's has Tony Packo's hot dogs and the coney sauce and the pickles.
Only thing, they are not as good as they are from the restaurant.
Kroger's also has their pickles, at least they did. I have not looked in a while.
growing up in toledo, i've loved their dogs and peppers for years. it really is a great family restaurant, but the down side for me is that it's a great family restaurant-- not to be confused with a great bar with fantastic food. not very much of a con really; i'm just not a fan of having the kiddies around when i'm trying to get down to serious drinking (at night).
I love Tony Packo's! I went to UT and we'd hit the place every couple of months for a double dog and pickles and peppers. Here's the key to a successful eating experience at Tony Packo's:
Eat something with ice cream after your meal!!!!
Trust me, it'll kill the intestinal pain that will surely ensue after eating a loaded double dog. It makes it all go down much easier.
/I've always wondered how all those signed hot dog buns haven't disintegrated after all those years...
