WCRS-LPFM wrote kessler wrote Yeah I tried this station for the v.p. debate and the friday cranksters.
I was unable to get any signal, I work downtown across from the wharehouse cafe.
WCRS never aired the vice-presidential debates last Friday, but beyond Downtown Columbus as well as the Short North and Victorian Village area are problem areas for reception of 98.3FM because of proximity to WNCI’s transmission antenna atop the Nationwide building. WNCI is the strongest FM station in Ohio at 185,000 Watts. Its frequency at 97.9 is very close to 98.3. In these areas to receive WCRS, a higher-quality radio receiver might be necessary or a rabbit ears antenna used to discriminate between WNCI’s and WCRS’ origination direction of transmission. If your radio is capable of tuning on even 0.1 MHz, then try receiving FM 98.3 by tuning to 98.4 MHz.

Thank you for trying though.
Yes. The "rabbit ears" are a kind of dipole antenna. They are fairly directional with a 'null' along the length of the ears. Point one of the ears at the nationwide building to 'null' out their signal a bit! It also helps if you adjust the length of the ears to match a little shorter than 1/4 wavelength (28-29") the frequency you're trying to get.
WNCI is a major nuisance!
The radios built into mp3 players are problematic. But, if you take the leads from the dipole ears you can (in theory) use an aligator clip onto the earphone of the mp3 player and you *might* get a slightly better signal.
