I recently took Greyhound to Detroit and back. Overall I give it a thumbs up. Wondering if others have Greyhound stories (good or bad) to share?
I'll post my "review" in a few days...

I stay away from buses.
last bus trip I took was 16 years ago. an overnight bus trip to NYC.
I arrived in NYC with a raging hangover and with a suspension from school when I returned to my hometown...
I rode the Greyhound all the time to Canton and back about 6-7 years ago. I thought it was great and never had any problems, other than the ticket counter only having 1 worker and she was slow at that. Almost missed my bus one Thanksgiving.
i went to cleveland once for xmas... freshman year of college... and it was a horrible\stressful experience.
I took Greyhound from Columbus to Cinci to visit my wife (then girlfriend) and she came to see me on it at least three times. The time I rode it I was soaking wet from the rain on my way to the station, but other than that it was good times.
I have ridden a few times.
3 times between Laredo, TX and Cols. ---2 days
1 time between Cols. and Macon, GA ----1.5 days
1 time between Cols. and Naples, FL almost ---2 days
1 time between Olympia WA and Cols. ----3 days
All of them were terrible experiences, but I kept coming back for more!
I have never been at it, but had to pick up/drop off people at the station many times (the one in Dayton is super shady). I've heard almost nothing but bad things...in fact this thread is the first positive thing I have read about them.
Anyone try Megabus yet?
My mother dropped me off at the Greyhound station in Youngstown to come to Columbus when I was in college. It was HORRIBLE!!!! It took seven hours for a three hour drive. Kids were screaming. Adults were screaming. Toys were being thrown. Complete mayhem. I have not let my mother forget about that to this day. That and the Prince concert she wouldn't let me go to in 1985.
finally got around to writing down my thoughts. It got alot longer than I thought it would... so here are the highlights and you can go to the link if you REALLY want all the details.
- thought the Columbus station was clean and I liked the flat screen TVs and hot food options (not great but better than nothing)
- counting arriving early enough before your bus leaves, the trip to Detroit took 5 hours. this included a 20 minute food break at a truck stop.
- the Detroit station was surprisingly alot smaller than the Columbus station
- got back into Columbus 15 minutes late, although this was announced when we left Detroit
- sure it's slower than driving (and flying if you don't get delayed) but it was fine for me
- no crazy people in the stations or the on the buses, you could sleep fine if you wanted to. (I slept most of the ride up to Detroit.)
- the best part of the trip was chatting with a random lady and it was just one of those conversations that flows. Awesome!
I think with Greyhound it’s hit or miss, but for me this was a hit. Mostly on schedule, no crazy people, even had good conversation! I would definitely take it again if I had the time, for local-ish trips. Overnight trips, I’m not so sure about. When you start getting grimey and wanting a shower, stopping at truck stops and Greyhound stations is not going to feel as comfortable. I also bet the smaller cities stations are yuckier, but that’s more of a hunch.
