I'm listening to it on C-SPAN radio. I've got a bottle of 2005 California Sangiovese to help get me through it. Working OK so far. I think I'd probably enjoy the evening more if I turned off the debate and went with just the Sangiovese, though. 8)

Project Runway Finale.

I think they ought to have electrodes on the seats the candidates are sitting in and the controls in the hands of the audience. If more than 75% of the audience pushes the "OFF TOPIC!" button, the candidate speaking gets zapped.

Aaaahhhh!
Since we cancelled our cable I have no idea what's live on the tubes outside of what's available on Hulu.
Anne's watching right now on Hulu, so I'm in the same boat as Gram, and just listening from the other side of the room.

I'm not sure McCain knows Senator Obama's or his wife's first names!

I watched for an hour then switched to video games.

I'm listening in too. McCain is really in a rambling mood tonight. He needs to take a deep breath and form a complete thought.
It's like he's trying so hard to rattle off his talking points that he's making himself short of breath.
"My friends I know how to fix it wind tides solar nuclear clean coal lower taxes wind solar drilling drill here drill now I know how to fix it."

McCain came off a little crazy at the end there when they shook hands. "Good job, Good job, GOOD JOB!" LOL.

I thought this was by far the best debate, but my perception of it seems different from that of the talking heads. I thought McCain looked terrible and sounded desperate, while Obama turned in one of his best ever performances --sticking firmly to the issues and adding specifics I haven't heard before. I think it's worth mentioning here that, while I am an Obama supporter, I haven't previously been impressed by his debate performances.
It seems like the media is giving it to McC, however --although the consensus still seems to be "too little, too late".

The media is giving it to McC because he tried to stir the pot...and that gives them something to talk about for the next three news cycles.

Missed the debate itself at a Shadowbox fundraiser last night, but got home in time to watch all the post-debate coverage (CNN-flavor), so I got to see the highlights and hear what all their pundits had to say.
From what I did see, McCain tried to really take the offensive - but that didn't seem to resonate well with folks in their (Columbus!) undecideds group or in the post-debate polls. He got a lot of points for the "I'm not Bush" thing, but that really would've been more effective a couple months ago...

Last night and this morning, we have been working on Alec's homework that involved watching the debate (and playing a bingo game like the drinking game) and writing it up.
From our perspective, there was absolutely miminal content in the whole thing. Do you realize how hard it is to come up with 5 BIG points from either that are not completely 'he said, he said, no I didn't?' Alec - 4th grader - said they were both a couple of children with the whole 'he started it!' going on ad nauseum about negative ads which dominated the first 2/3s we watched.

I'd give him an A for that. Seems like he got the gist of it well enough.
If he actually quoted the Latin, I'd give him a gold star and a cookie, too. 8)

I watched the first 3/4 of it before I actually fell asleep. I thought the format was better than the last two - it allowed for more dialogue, and the moderator was better - firm but allowed some banter, which was helpful in determining temperment.
Like the first two debates, I thought both did fairly well. McCain had to attack to get anywhere in the polls, and I think he did more of a "scalpel" approach rather than a "nuculer" approach in attacking. McCain's rhetorical style, though has much to be desired. He repeats the same sentence a lot. "That's what I'm going to do, and I'm going to do it." Obama seemed to be verging on smug. The network I watched showed both candidates in splitscreen, and Obama grinned through McCain's jabs in a way I found a bit repulsive. Like "Get a load of this old coot who doesn't know what he's talking about." I would have liked to have seen a little more passion out of Obama, though he did display that calmness under pressure he's so know for.
This morning I saw an interview with Joe the Plumber on the Today Show. And after hearing that man talk, I absolutely don't care a single bit about what he thinks or how much he's taxed. All of his political opinions centered around shooting guns and closing the border with Mexico.

Oh, and did anyone catch that Obama claim and then reassert that 100% of McCain's ads are negative? That's a pretty bald faced lie.
And McCain's mention of "the Great Society" reforms of LBJ - that made him sound old and insidery. Most people don't get past WWII in their high school American History classes and don't read ahead in the book, either.

I thought Obama held up very well to McCains attempts to rattle him. Obama has been very impressive in these debates.
