I've been thinking more and more about going skydiving and I'm curious to hear of anyone's experience, good or bad.

My first time was last year and it was amazing! I am getting a group together and we are going again on June 26th. Definitely try it, you won't regret it!

I want to go too. I got a gift certificate to Aer Ohio for Xmas. I would like to use it but I haven't found anyone interested (or dumb enough...lol) to go with me.

I did it several years ago and it was amazing! The free fall is terrifying, but once your chute is deployed, you have plenty of time to relax and enjoy the scenery.
I'd do it again in a heart beat.

I am not that afraid of jumping, but worry I might black out or loose consciousness. Does anyone else have this problem? I am sure my first jump would be tandem anyways
I came super close to blacking out my first time up in a Cessna 172 during a landing (granted I had an empty stomach except for a redbull).

I did a tandem jump in the Xenia / Yellow Spring area. The first chute did not open, the second one did....it was a ride of a lifetime.
When we landed, the chute packer suggested that maybe we did not like the color of the first chute.
It was odd, but I was not scared at all, I thought I would be. On a tandem jump the other person does all the work so you are just there for the ride.

I've been twice and both times were at Skydive Ohio which is in Xenia. I really had a good time. The guys there are all pretty cool. The runway is a long stretch off grass in a random corn field. I did it once out of the side and another out the back. Both awesome.
Con: In Ohio all you are looking at is differnt shades of squares on a flat sureface.

Sounds like a good CU Meetup! Maybe we can get a group rate going, eh Walker?

Sounds awesome! I haven't asked anyone to go with me, most of my friends would probably decline the chance to jump out of a plane ;)

Hey Kary. I found someone at work to jump out of a plane with! We've tentatively decided on perhaps late July. We could try for one big Lakee911's work slash Columbus Underground event perhaps.

Most amazing experience ever, do it, do it, do it!!!
I jumped tandem through Start Skydiving. I believe they've changed locations since I went, but... absolutely incredible. Highly recommended thrill.Posted 1 year ago # -

My tandem experience in college ended up being absolutely thrilling, but I'm not sure it's something I need to do again. Although, I tend to be one of those "do everything once" people.
Squatting on the edge of an open plane door, feeling absolutely nothing in front of me to hold onto, seeing a 14,000 foot drop below me, and hearing a strange man attached to my back telling me to lean my head against him, look up and jump was one of the most frightening moments of my life. I remember being so pissed at my friend for making me go first and thinking I was going to die.
In a split second we were in the air and I've never known any more soothing and wonderous feeling. That mid-air experience, and the view of the earth around us was simply beautiful and awe inspiring. I thought I would lose my breath and my stomach would surge into my throat like it does on roller coasters, but it was nothing of the sort. In the end I didn't want to land. Would definitely recommend it.

My husband has been skydiving for about 10 years now, his home DZ is Skydive Greene county in Xenia, he would be happy to take anyone and everyone with him:)
This is the longest running skydive center in the mid-west, and the owner is a great guy and the staff is super friendly and helpful. They have a great porch on the club house for freinds and family to hang out and watch the jumpers.

Thanks everyone! I'm pretty sure now that I'm going to do it and I'd like to do it before summer is over :)
Kerry- I'm actually originally from Greene County so I'll probably go there, thanks for the info!!
Stacky- Thanks for the in-depth details, sounds amazing :)
Lakee911- If you get something together, let me know!
Again, thank you everyone for your input!

I would totally go to a CU meetup like this :) hehehe
I've never been skydiving, but I did the Rip Cord at Cedar Point and loved it!Posted 1 year ago # -
I don't mind putting something together, but we'll need to get an accurate account of who is going and when people are available. I've never organized something like this for people I've not met. How is money collected, etc?
My gift certificate is for AerOhio, so if we plan it for Greene County I won't go.

Anywhere is fine. I'm not a very great organizer either so I don't really know how to set this up lol. But I'm still down to go!

Lakee: I'd be up if it was one of my days off (or I could plan to ask for that day off). I would set it up this way. Pick a day you want to go. Put that day on this thread with the information on how to contact the skydive company. Have us sign up and inform you as you do. I would expect less than a half dozen to actually do it (at least the first time).
Let me know. Sounds fun.

Here's the scoop!
The what is Sky Diving @ AerOhio and the when is Saturday, July 24th, 1:00PM. The price is $199.00 http://www.aerohio.com/ We need to arrive by 1PM and depending on how busy they are, expect to spend at least 2 to 4 hours with them. Please check out their website for a wealth of information.
I was told that they do have a spectator area if you'd like to come watch but do not want to participate.
Here is how it works. Call 1800-SKY-DIVE and reserve a tandem sky dive at the time listed above. Tell them you are with me (Jason) and you will be added to our group. Your credit number will be taken, but it will not be charged until you jump. In the event that you cancel within their 72-hour cancelation period, you will be charged $35.00.
I've tentatvely told them that there will be six people, but they can accommodate more if we have the interest.
Please post here if you've signed up so we know who is going. We can arrange to car pool. I will nominate myself and say that I do have room for two others. If you all would like to get together for a pre-jump happy-hour a few days prior to get to know everyone else (and me) I'd be up for that.
Can't wait! Will be fun!
