I knocked a few Columbus things off my list this weekend.
I went to:
The Statehouse Tour - Free every hour on the hour Monday through Friday. Everything about it was cool except the old guy from Massachussets who kept asking questions about Ohio politics, not the history of the building.
Rhodes Tower Observation Deck - Really an observation hallway and you can't see West of downtown. Unless the old lady in the lobby directed me to the wrong floor. Kind of disappointing but it's always fun to see the layout of a city from that high up.
Columbus Crew Game - A lot of fun, I've always really liked that Stadium (shocking, I like a building in Columbus). One of the highlights was biking with friends from OTE to the stadium. We went up Cleveland Ave from Broad and had a cop ask me, as I was crossing 5th heading north, if I knew what I was about to bike through.

I think the best observation deck in columbus is in the Riffe. go up to the 31st floor. the 31st floor is all meeting rooms, usually unoccupied. the meeting rooms all have huge floor to ceiling windows. go into an unoccupied room at each direction (NESW) to get your columbus panarama fix.

Knocked one thing off my list. The Hayden Run Falls. Maybe next time I'll go after it rains. It's quite impressive. Would have been more so if the taps were functioning. Not a drop of water.

:oops: Thanks for clarifying that. I couldn't get the official Statehouse web site to come up so I got mine info of some travel site. I wasn't sure if it was accurate but it worked for me.

There is a view to the west from a small window near the elevator banks.

His appearances dates are: July 17 and 24; August 21 and 28; and September 4.

And I'd like to tour the OSU Urban Arts Space in the converted Lazarus building. The Alan Price exhibit Immersive Environments looks compelling.

How do you get up there? Isn't there a guard in the lobby?

check your pm. I brought B here, she loved it. she works in a 2 story building, 31 floors is quite different. Awesome view of Huntington park, the Statehouse, Franklinton, GV, etc etc...

if you can, check out the conservatory on a thursday night, "Cocktails at the conservatory" if they are still doing it. you get to have a drink and walk around all the rooms(I hope they still allow that)

They are, and I plan to do that at some point. My first trip will be a quick tour for me on Monday, though.

what I really liked about the cocktails thing was that it is at night and they have the rooms dimly lit, we were the only ones in the rooms each time, and it was pretty romantic. You aren't around kids and tourists and other people talking. You have this whole little world to yourselves. And staff isn't in your face, they leave you alone and respect that you are adults and not there to mess stuff up.(at least that's how it felt)
