I've long been aware of how wording can significantly influence polling, but even so, these poll results absolutely blew me away:
Seventy-nine percent of Democrats said they support permitting gay men and lesbians to serve openly. Fewer Democrats however, just 43 percent, said they were in favor of allowing homosexuals to serve openly.

Odd detail in the story:
Democrats in the poll seemed particularly swayed by the wording. Seventy-nine percent of Democrats said they support permitting gay men and lesbians to serve openly. Fewer Democrats however, just 43 percent, said they were in favor of allowing homosexuals to serve openly. Republicans and independents varied less between the two terms.

I believe the words 'supporting' and 'favoring' are embellishments of the writer of the article, and do not necessarily reflect the actual wording of the poll. The exact wording would have been useful.
