I've never been to The Wilds before, but I was thinking of going out on Memorial Day or later for one of their safari excursions. Has anyone been out there who can comment on the experience? Any particular package you would recommend? The open-air ride sounds as if it would provide a better experience. Do you get up close to the animals, or should I bring binoculars?

I believe the Venture Club that posts on here plans a trip out here next month or the month after!
I plan on attending for sure.

That's the first time I checked out the site. The price for the dinner/sunset safari package seems really great. I think Niki and I will definitely do this soon.

The wife and I (Columbus Zoo members for years now) made one trip to the Wilds for our anniversary two years ago. It was definitely worth it, but pricey. I know that when the Wilds was struggling financially, they went to the Columbus Zoo for help and one of their first pieces of advise was to raise prices because they are one of the few places in America who offer this kind of wildlife for viewing. They might as well charge what they are due.
It's really an awesome place and the animals are just stunning. When you get off the highway in Zanesville, the drive is a little further than you might think though. My wife gets impatient in the car so plan ahead.

I checked it out and it was rather impressive. I went on the open-air jeep tour. Although some of the animals were a little far away to see, viewing them in a more natural setting makes up for it. Plus you can rent binoculars at the site. Other animals got up quite close. Some pics below:
