I have been watching some episodes of The Twilight Zone on Hulu/CBS. I used to watch this as a kid with my dad, but didn't appreciate it/understand it so well back then. Now I do! WOW! What a show.
Its so well done, camera, music, scenery, story, just great. Its slow, but thats just a well told story.
One was Third From The Sun that was about nuclear holocaust and the potential for science and state to be evil. It was made in 1960 before the Cuban Missile Crisis, but it seemed ahead of that.
Anyway, any other fans of this series out there that would recommend an episode? HULU has non-consecutive episodes from seasons 1-3. I really want to watch the one with William Shatner on the plane with the goblin; someone told me about it once, but HULU doesn't have that episode. Its called Nightmare at 20,000 Feet.

I've always been really partial to the Burgess Meredith, Time Enough at Last. Meredith was such a great actor, and this is one of the darkest, most brutal endings ever on the show.

I watched this all the time as a kid. I plan to check this out on Hulu now. I remember liking the Eye of the Beholder episode, as well as the one Core mentioned, but need to go back through them because I've forgotten so much. Rod Serling understood what irony really meant.

They just put up a ton of Alfred Hitchcock Presents on Hulu as well when you run out of Twilight Zones.

Carl and I are fans of the Twilight Zone. There is a Twilight Zone marathon on the Sci-Fi channel new years eve and new years day. According to their website, the Nightmare at 20,000 feet will be on at 10:00 pm 1/1, if you happen to have cable...
I'd have a hard time picking a favorite. There are so many, and so many different stars that you see in their early days.
We'll probably check out some of the marathon, and see if we can narrow down some of our old favs, and I'll let you know.

One of my favorites is "The Monsters on Maple Street" reflecting the nervous, Cold War hysteria of the time.

Rod Serling fought against the Japanese in WWII, and many TZ episodes incorporate the horrors and morality of his combat experiences.

Outer Limits is another good show of this ilk. The best of the bunch was a two part series - The Inheritors. I have not been able to find this show online but I have found many of the other black and white episodes as well as the remakes - which are OK.

I performed The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street as a project for theater arts class in high school. I got to fire a gun during second period of school, which is something I'm sure would never be allowed in a school building any more (And yes, the Outer Limits were great too).

My favoriet episode is one you can't see anymore. I think it was pulled from distribution for some reason. "To Serve Man". Its a cookbook.

I'm 30 years old, and the Twilight Zone intro still freaks me out. I'm not even joking you when I tell you that I burst into tears just hearing it.

+1. Agreed. Thought the ending was one of the most tragic, ironic things I've ever seen. It is one of the few television episodes I've seen that will stay with me.

Also very partial to "Eye of the Beholder" as well.

Anyone remember the really cheesy TZ rip-off "Tales from the Darkside" back in the 1980's?

I was born in 1952. The half-hour, black-and-white Twilight Zone's top my list of the best TV programs ever. "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet," though, is too unsophisticated for Twilight Zone -- more like something you'd see on Outer Limits. One of the best episodes is "A Nice Place to Visit," it's like an half hour Zen Koan. The very first episode, "Where is Everybody?" is really good; also "A Stop at Willoughby" and "Walking Distance" (Ron Howard is in a brief scene; he's about 5 years-old).

The one where the old lady seems to be being terrorized by those tiny creepy little robot-looking things and you're rooting for her all the way as she keeps destroying them and then at the end you find out that those little things are actually astronauts from Earth exploring another planet. What a great twist.
