Only if that's where that development ended. There's no reason that a system could not eventually extend to other Ohio cities, such as Toledo and Dayton. I don't think you need to connect every single little town, though. Rail is not meant to do that and never has.
In any case, it's all a moot debate. As long as we have current leadership in place, rail won't happen anyway.

All three of you, that's not my point.
If you want a bullet train between the 3-C, making the trip in, I think it said 45 minutes, you can't stop at all the smaller cities along the way.
There's no reason slower trains wouldn't/couldn't serve the smaller cities in Ohio. Slowly, the other lines could be upgraded as well.

It could, but it is kind of a chicken/egg argument.
if we just want train service, don't get bogged down with a high-speed designation.
If we want high-speed, don't complicate it with multiple stops.

I think you would have to take a two-seat ride. The existing San Joaquin route runs from Bakersfield to either Oakland or Sacramento. It would get faster due to the proposed construction. However, there is a gap between Bakersfield and LA that is currently made by bus.

Yes, there would most likely be a LOCAL and an EXPRESS service. The LOCAL would stop more frequently at, say, Mansfield, Delaware, etc, while the EXPRESS would reach the 220mph max speed and have few stops, if any.

C'mon, intermixing the two rail modes allows proponents to cherry pick what they see as benefits. Let's not throw reasoning into the mix.

California's Ridiculous High Speed Rail Plan
The rail authority has relied heavily on New York-based Parsons Brinkerhoff, a contractor that helped fund the political campaign for the $9.9-billion bond measure passed by voters in 2008....In October, Parsons submitted the analysis that came up with the $171 billion, a number that initially appeared in the authority's draft business plan released Nov. 1. In the study, Parsons first estimated how much passenger capacity the system would have at completion in 2033 and then calculated the cost for providing the same airport and highway capacity.Parsons said the high-speed rail system could carry 116 million passengers a year, based on running trains with 1,000 seats both north and south every five minutes, 19 hours a day and 365 days a year. The study assumes the trains would be 70% full on average.
This is just jaw-droppingly shameless.

The current California HSR plan is definitely an overly ambitious one if you ask me. That's the difference between a California liberal and an Ohio Democrat. Many California liberals have a belief system that makes them do things over-the-top and without thinking things through. Meanwhile, here in Ohio, we try to restore the minimum amount of passenger rail befitting of a first-world country and get shouted down because of outlandish projects going on in other states. From being deprived of passenger rail for so long, people's minds have been erased regarding anything involving it. Everybody knows the difference between adding a stoplight to a dangerous intersection and putting in a new 10-lane highway between Commercial Point and Darbydale, but all of a sudden all this RAIL BAD ROAD GOOD comes out since people don't know how to differentiate between a worthwhile project and an over-the-top-one -- or don't want to learn because they've already made a decision about everything ever.

Why is the California HSR plan overly ambitious? Many countries around the world are implementing rail networks even faster/more extensive than this.
No denying, rail has a big time first cost (so did the highway system), but once the system is in place, it provides many benefits. Unfortunately, maintenance costs for the highway system far outweigh the cost of rail maintenance. The more people we can get using rail, the less we need to waste on highway infrastructure and the faster we can get around in comfort and safety.

Amtrak Shifts Strategy From Begging For Money To Thinking Big

Amtrak, the corporation created by Congress when private industry abandoned U.S. passenger rail, is trying to overcome its chronic lack of money with a new strategy -- thinking far beyond its means.
In the past three weeks, Amtrak proposed a renovation of Washington’s Union Station that would cost at least $6.5 billion and published a $151 billion, three-decade plan for bringing 220-miles-per-hour service to its busiest route, between Washington and Boston. It’s working toward a future with bullet trains, though Congress killed President Barack Obama’s high- speed rail funding proposal last year and Republicans in the House of Representatives want to do it again this year.

THE UNCERTAIN FUTURE OF THE CALIFORNIA BULLET TRAIN

On July 18, at a site pregnant with symbolism — the future location of what HSR advocates hope will become San Francisco’s terminus of the state’s bullet train — California Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill to fund construction of the first section of the high-speed line. Earlier in the day, Brown had traveled for a similar ceremony to Los Angeles, the other "bookend" of the project. The bill signing ceremonies followed the state Senate’s approval (by a single vote) earlier in the month of nearly $8 billion in state and federal money to build the initial section of the line in the Central Valley and to make a series of transportation infrastructure improvements in the LA and Bay Area.
