Obviously its easy to throw darts at a big messy project and it just happens to be great for selling newspapers and webads. Once the Cali thing is built and brings another dimension of energy and bravado to California, I'd bet Ohioans are going to be kicking themselves, yet again, that we have stopped being a leader and largely adopt the status quo once everyone else has done it first.

Then, let's consider new money-draining forms of travel that are desired, but not necessary.

Transit spending is a tiny fraction of the federal budget. Transportation (including highways) isn't a whole lot bigger slice of the pie:

There's plenty of room to cut spending in the federal budget while still investing in *both* highway maintenance and rail transit infrastructure in a fiscally responsible manner.

I don't believe you can compare California's system to one in Ohio. California's high speed rail uses a completely new right-of-way, cuts thru mountainous terrain, requires substantial urban infrastructure modification, covers many more miles, etc.

That's not at all what I said. I'm happy to discuss this stuff with anyone, but not if you're going to make wild assumptions or try to put words in people's mouths.

Whats the point in arguing with people that can't see beyond their dashboard. We just have to continue to do the work and wait for the current generation to say goodbye.
Maybe we should cut Medicare, after all I'm not using it and those are the people who are denying the investment in public transportation. And talk about spending that is ballooning.
