The one major drawback to summer....

...is that so many restaurants and businesses like to crank up the A/C to the point where all I can do is just sit there and shiver. Am I the only one who gets tired of freezing all summer in these ice boxes????
Even on the days that is was 94 degrees last week, I had to take a sweat jacket down to Cafe Brioso just to be able to spend an hour hanging out in their 56-degree A/C. How "green" is this???
I just got back from Chipotle in Grandview, and...same thing. $#@!% FREEZING!!!!! I just sat there and shivered.
What's up with this?????? I am beginning to think that there are just so many people with a lot of extra.......insulation........that they are always hot unless they keep the A/C cranked up.

I definitely have more insulation than my girl, and she's the one that's always hot.
but I kinda see your point. went to tip top and I was cold.
but also there might be something to do with colder temps make people eat more, thus colder temps in food establishments.

Hmmmm.....yes, I wonder if there isn't some psychological reason that businesses keep the A/C cranked.

Because we Americans can't stand to sweat or be outdoors, so we cater to the lowest common denominator. :D

I also don't feel comfortable in sub 70 degree air conditioning. Workplaces also have this problem. It is summer time and some people have jackets to wear at their desks.
It's messed up.

I love the temp in our offices...I am ALWAYS roasting hot and it is very pleasant for me.....

Agreed. I'd take a little chill over some server sweatin' all over me any day :)

Are there cultures that ENJOY sweating? I can understand some may deal with it, but do other cultures sit around and say "Hey I can't wait to go out to eat and sweat my arse off!!!" I highly doubt it.
Me, I'm a mini heater. Girls love it. I hate it. At least, when I'm not with a girl I hate it. So yeah. Lots of hate.

There's only 2 types of activities where sweating is expected and encouraged...eating dinner ain't one of them :wink:

the main problem in the restaurant where I work isn't the heat, but the humidity. The air condition takes the humidity out of the air. I would love for someone to create a system that takes the humidity out of the air without freezing cold air coming back in.
I think it's probably smart to carry a light cardigan, though. Also, this always occurs to me - men come in to dinner wearing a suit and tie, and girls come in wearing strapless dresses above the knee and strappy shoes. Whose outfit should we match the temperature to?

I totally agree! I never go anywhere without a cardigan sweater or a sweatshirt of some kind! I tend to get cold after I eat, anyway, so the AC makes it worse. I tend not to linger over a meal in a cold restaurant.

I'm pretty sure that there are commercial dehumidifiers that would serve that purpose... a good HVAC guy could point you in the right direction.

there are basic thermodynamic limitations with HVAC systems that will never be solved... the dehumidification is definitely the problem, but you have to cool the air to get the moisture out of the air, and its inefficient to rewarm the air to a more comfortable temperature, and you have to dehumidify in all types of buildings, not just hot restaurants. the only way you could have a dehumidifier separate from the air conditioning system is in a building where temperature didn't matter (or you wanted to be extremely inefficient).
