Anyone wanna start a bet to see if we even remember who she is 10 months from now?
Honestly, I'm not a big follower of pop music, but I think Lady Gaga might have some staying power... at least moreso than Britney Spears or Christina Agularhlalha or anyone else comparable from the past decade or so.
Or at the very least, I can appreciate the "performance art" aspect to what she is doing and hope that doesn't get lost along the way as she continues to become the "next big thing" in pop music.
I know one fellow OSU alumna, an otherwise-respectable young female professional of 26 or so, who has already bought her ticket and is/was basically doing the online equivalent of giggling like a little girl at the prospect of this concert.
Ah well. There's no accounting for taste.

+1
Say what you will, but I think this would be one fun concert.
Yeah, I'm sure the actual production quality will be through the roof for her show. Probably quite the live event to witness.
Personally, I find it interesting that Gaga emerged from the same type of NYC underground/performance-art/burlesque scene that Fischerspooner did. Obviously, they didn't go on to achieve the same level of fame, but when we saw them live in Detroit a few years ago, it was hands down one of the best live shows I've ever seen, period.

I imagine Gaga's show will be like that times 1,000.
I was at that coachella :)
I think she's amazing. She has phenomenal vocal talent, an artistic style that is on par with early Madonna, Bjork, etc., and whether you like pop music or not, her mark on pop culture in such a short amount of time is far reaching.
Walker, I swear I'm not coming down on you, as I know this is just a music taste/preference discrepancy, but if the staying power of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilara (10+ years since their respective debut albums dropped) is something to balk at then there aren't many artists in existence that could surpass that baseline for "success".
All I know is I now have "Bad Romance" stuck in my head...

Didn't they both recently release new albums to little fanfare? I'm not saying that they both haven't been successful, but it seems like the average corporate pop-star lifespan is 5-8 years at the most anymore.
Anyway, it's still really early in her career and somewhat impossible to predict these things, but I'd be surprised if Gaga doesn't have the lasting multi-generational star power of your aforementioned Madonna reference.
I seem to recall people saying similar things about Madonna, Nirvana, even The Beatles were a fad. How's it feel to turn into your grandparents?
I can't believe I'm actually going to put this out there, but here goes, lol.
Britney's last tour was one of the highest grossing of the year. If I recall correctly, every show was sold out. Pretty impressive. I'm almost positive the album dropped at No. 1, but that's not hard to do now since no one buys CD's anymore. It used to take a million+ to debut at #1, now it's barely over 100K, not really that impressive when compared to album sales of the 80's/90's. She's still breaking industry records with sales, single/album chart debuts, etc. so she may be a target for gossip tabloid fodder (justified or not, who cares), she's still very relevant in the industry.
I don't think Christina has done anything in the last 4 or 5 years except pop out a baby, I've heard good industry buzz about the new album that drops in a few weeks.
I get that pop music is not appreciated on CU since a lot of people on CU try to live on the fray, but it really bothers me when people's accomplishments aren't appreciated due to differing tastes - regardless if it's music, fine arts, sports, food, booze, etc. we're talking about.
Britney has impressive sales on all fronts no doubt about it no hate here. In the pop world I think it would be hard to match the achievements over the past 12 years since her first album came out. In the end all pop stars are manufactured creations and as much as I enjoy Lady Gaga I just don’t think she will have anymore staying power anymore than the rest of them. She may be different but in reality not much different than anyone else that has people controlling the image they want to sell.

Strangely I was going to back up Britney and Christina too, though I have no idea why. You really can't argue with their success though. I like Gaga's schtick, but eventually even things like sunglasses made of cigarettes and showing up at the Grammys wrapped in tinfoil is going to be, hmm...meh. I'd be shocked if she lasted half as long as Brit.
The firm I work for has a seat license, so sometimes we can buy tickets to things like this a few days early.....the cheapest ticket was $80 the most expensive were over $200.
I agree this would probably be a fun concert, but not for that much money.
i'm a giant music snob.
i would go to this show in a heartbeat.
but it's probably a smidge too expensive for me.
I would go - I actually enjoy her music. It just seems like selling tickets nearly a year in advance is a bit of a gamble.
