German Village Art League (GVAL) is pleased to announce its 3rd annual “The Language of Art†juried exhibition, where visual art is paired with poetry. Hosted by The High Road Gallery , “The Language of Art†will take place June 1 through 25, 2011. The gallery is located at 12 E. Stafford Rd., Worthington.
"The Language of Art" features visual art complemented by ekphrasis poetry – the graphic, often dramatic description of a visual work of art in poem. Selected artwork will be assigned to a poet, who will produce a poem that reflects their experience with the art.
GVAL challenges visual artists to submit work that will inspire the poets’ pens. For centuries, visual art has influenced the way we see the world as has poetry. "The Language of Art" brings them together through an exploration of inspiration and nuance with sometimes unexpected and unintended results.
Jurors in Visual Art: Carol Hershey, owner of The High Road Gallery, and Jami Goldstein, a longtime arts advocate and enthusiast, who supports artists’ work through hers at Greater Columbus Arts Council. Juror in Poetry: Scott Woods, Author and editor of over nine books, has published work in a variety of publications, and has been featured multiple times in national press, including multiple appearances on National Public Radio. He is the President of Poetry Slam Inc. and MCs the Writers’ Block Poetry Night, an open mic series in Columbus, Ohio.
