Kasich’s new school-funding formula delayed

Shortly after taking office this year, Gov. John Kasich scrapped his Democratic predecessor’s school-funding fix and pledged to replace it with his own formula for distributing tax money to schools. Kasich vowed to direct more money to classroom instruction, better serve the individual needs of students and expand school options by allowing more tax dollars to flow from traditional public schools to charter and private schools.

Have to give credit to Kasich/DeWine for something. The Strickland (and Taft) admin didn't seem to think this was an issue until '10 and then did the swift and sure action of ... forming a task force. Well done. Though cutting funding for treatment, not so well done.

Ohio craft brewers are hoping a new state law signed Wednesday will help boost beer tourism and bring breweries more in line with wineries.The law allows production breweries to open tasting rooms and sell their beer by the glass without buying a second, costly permit.

Governor’s mansion lacks tenant, but 2011 bill is $438,720

Nobody lives at the Governor’s Residence these days. But Ohio taxpayers still picked up the tab to fix the roof and keep WOW! cable running through the Bexley mansion’s TVs this year. According to state records, $438,720 was spent in 2011 to staff, maintain and repair the Ohio governor’s official residence, even though Gov. John Kasich chose not to live there.

D) It's unconstitutional, and the state will end up spending millions in court, battling it.
And also - I'd like to see the numbers tying Welfare recipients to excessive (outside statistical averages) drug use. I'm guessing the general population has them beat.

I would, fuck em, and this again is coming from someone with a minor in the house and ab ebt card.
Treatment? I am thinking jail, for misuse of gov. Benefits. Why are we talking about welfare anyway, no one gets the cash assistance anymore, too low amount of money, too many stupid classes to attend to get it, and they cut u off anyway after a few years. I am all for tightening the controls on ebt cards. So much missuse goinf on.

A little more than a year ago, Gov. John Kasich declared that he would spend less than his predecessor on the employees who report to him. By several measures, Kasich kept his word in 2011. But because no administration is staffed exactly the same way, and because the Kasich administration will no longer provide the data to draw a full comparison, it is difficult to prove whether less is being spent on Kasich’s entire team.

Heh, this is going back up the thread a little, but I didn't know he vetoed the Lake Erie water bill. I would not have guessed that he would do that, even with the pressure from former Republican governors and neighboring states, particularly given the sponsors of the bill.

Ohio Poll: Fewer now disapprove of Kasich

For the first time since shortly after John Kasich became governor, a major poll shows that more Ohioans approve of his job performance than disapprove. Despite a bitter campaign to slash collective bargaining for state and local government employees last year, 44 percent in a new Ohio Poll now like his performance, 42 percent don’t and 14 percent are neutral.
