I saw the write up in the Other Paper yesterday about this so I looked up the website - they are closing down High Street in the Short North next Saturday for a block party. Also, offering tickets to Tuesday's Clippers game. Just FYI to say Hi! to our visitors.

I'm pretty psyched for this. I'm volunteering to pour drinks at the closing party on Saturday night so come say hi! It's a great week-long event to showcase how spectacular Columbus is.
I went to volunteer orientation a couple nights ago and the presenters were saying how they won the bid 35-5 against Dallas. AND how in previous years, they had to travel up to an hour from downtown (Minneapolis?) to get to the softball fields. The proximity of Berliner Park to downtown hotels really sold the board members of the softball league. Not to mention, it will probably generate $5million in revenue for the city (there are something like 4500 hotel rooms booked specifically for this event). It would be really great if we could become a semi-regular host for the Gay Softball World Series.

ALSO: can someone please change the title of this thread? Maybe to like the Gay Softball World Series 2010? Thanks.

How's the trash situation on High street after this event?
Posted 1 year ago # -
I was at High and First this morning, and it didn't seem much worse than a normal Saturday night. In fact, it was cleaner than the aftermath of a Gallery Hop...

The trash situation is actually pretty good. From what I understand they had crews out at 4 AM to start cleaning up and the SID cart was rolling through when I got in this morning. As an added bonus, the meters are all still bagged so no one will be able to get here today to make any more trash!

Didn't you read the other thread? The Gays are really neat.

A debriefing email on the series. Get ready for 2014 or 2015!
Dear HR Club Member, Volunteer, Sponsor
It is hard to believe four months have passed since we hosted the 2010 NAGAAA Gay Softball World Series. The organizing committee has closed the books and gave our final report to the NAGAAA Board and Delegates last weekend at the Winter Meeting in Chicago. We thought it would be a great time to thank you once again for your support and provide a brief wrap up of the event.
We are pleased to report the event was an overwhelming success for our league, for our LGBT community, our city, and the thousands of players and fans – many visiting Columbus for the first time. Our primary goal was to create such a positive impression on our guests they would want the Gay Softball World Series to return to Columbus on a regular basis. Based on feedback, there is no doubt we achieved our goal. Numerous guest comments indicated this was the best World Series ever! Many of the compliments centered on our amazing army of volunteers who went the extra mile to make everyone feel welcome. We are sure it comes as no surprise that many of the comments could be grouped in the category of, “We had no idea what a great city Columbus is.â€Â
In addition to leaving a positive impression on our visitors, the event generated positive national media exposure for our city in Compete Magazine, Instinct Magazine, and over the airways of Sirius OutQ radio. We have recently been notified by Experience Columbus our organizing committee and the World Series have won a 2011 Expy Award! Experience Columbus presents the award for an event that provides a more vibrant and distinct experience for residents and visitors to Columbus. Award finalists demonstrate a high degree of uniqueness and creativity and help advance the image of our community on a regional, national, and international level. We will accept the award on Tuesday, March 8 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.
We are also proud to report the Series was a financial success. Experience Columbus confirmed the event generated an estimated $5 million in visitor spending. The Talent Show raised $10,000 for Camp Sunrise and the Columbus AIDS Task Force. Additionally, local organizations collectively raised almost $6,000 in tips working beer trucks at all the events. The Greater Columbus Sports Commission received a letter from Dine Originals Columbus acknowledging the positive financial impact the event had on our local restaurants.
The proceeds from the event will allow us to make a donation to NAGAAA to support future World Series and historical preservation; to return a sizable amount of money back to the Columbus Lesbian and Gay Softball Association; to support strategic investments that ensure the continued success of the largest GLBT sports organization in Ohio; and to create a substantial head start on fundraising for our next Columbus World Series bid, tentatively in 2014 or 2015.
None of these accomplishments would have been possible without your financial support and hard work. We would also like to thank our amazing Board whose creativity, enthusiasm, and commitment to our community turned a dream into a reality. We never doubted our community could pull an event of this magnitude off, and we are so proud of how the event brought our entire community together. You definitely stood tall! Thanks again.
