I would have seen this movie just because I'm a boxing fan, but when I learned it was the true story of Irish Micky Ward, it became a must see. While not a household name, Micky is one of my favorite fighters of all time. If you're even a mild boxing fan, the trilogy of fights between Micky Ward and Arturo Gatti are 3 of the best fights ever, and the courage and determination these guys showed was unreal. This movie, however, isn't about those fights, its about the life of Micky and his relationship with his family as he tries to make a name for himself as a boxer. You don't have to be a boxing fan to love this film any more than you have to be a ballet fan to love Black Swan. Its the venue for a story, but it isn't the backbone of the story. Here's the trailer, and also a video of the highlights of Gatti Ward I, including all of Round 9...which is the definition of a war, and considered by many to be the round of the century.
