The Day the Earth Stood Still is a 2008 science fiction film, a remake of the 1951 film of the same name.
Actually, after i've seen it, I was dissapointed. Perect cast, interest theme, but scenario doesn't conform to modern world-view and lifestyle.
Interest ot hear other opinions, do you like this movie?

Haven't seen the new one yet, but based on what I've heard, I don't plan on it.
I don't know Paul, from what I've seen they needed an actor to be emotionless and robotic...Keanu seems spot on for the role to me :lol:

Exactly...his lack of emotion and blank stare were perfect for the role. I actually liked the movie quite a bit until the last half hour, it kind of lost me at that point. I wasn't really impressed at the method Klatu was going to use to end humanity.. I'd give it a C+

I did a spit-take when I saw the commercial for this. Apparently, the thought of Keanu acting in anything, ever, is inordinately amusing to me.
It was kind of like a few years ago, when some friends of mine were driving by the campus-area Kroger, and I turned around in my seat and yelled "WHOA-- DUDE, THE PAYLESS SHOES IS GONE??!!". A little too much emotion there :lol:

I always figure if a truly powerful alien race really wanted to get rid of us the simplest method would be to just shove the minor planet Vesta retrograde to its orbit a few thousand m/s and just drop it on us. Cheap, simple... BIG bada boom.

Speaking of Keanu, I think that a double bill of Stigmata with Patricia Arquette, and Constantine with Keanu, is my absolute, hands-down "bad movie" dream team.
Everybody could use a laugh in these uncertain times.

I've not seen the former, but I've seen the latter and it makes me want to kick in the jimmy whoever thought taking a badass DC Vertigo character, who is well known for surviving on his wits and his sarcastic comments and casting idiot boy Keanu was a good idea.
Constintine could have been a great psychological horror flick.. hell, it could have been several alas no..

The film adaptation of Spawn ended my love for big-action comic books, so I actually consider that a good thing... totally ushered in the age of Ennis/Ellis/Woods and great reads like Box Office Poison. Spawn soundtrack was pretty rocking as well... ridiculously terrible movie though.

I thought he was great in River's Edge…but he just had to play a burned out teenage stoner, devoid of emotion and introspective thought. He was pretty good at that!
True fact: from 1986-88, my friends and I made all of our apparel choices based on the wardrobe used in this movie. Not so much the guys in the middle, but mostly Keanu and Crispin Glover's outfits.

Yeah, he was well cast in that. I like that he was *so* well cast that I was convinced when Dennis Hopper's character was creeped out by his total lack of emotional response.
That's right, people.. the best role keanu ever had was a sociopath that creeped out Dennis Hopper..

I dono, I never cared much for Spawn, but I grew up reading and loving DC horror comics, so when I started reading comics again in my late 20s, Hellblazer (the comic Constantine is based on) was one of the titles I read.
And man what a comic..
The jist is that John Constantine is a con-man, occultist and all around prick. He also is generally too smart for his own good and tends to get himself in over his head.
The fun comes in watching him claw himself out of the holes he digs.
Lots of horror and nastiness with a heaping dose of great dialog and even some character development..
When I saw the trailer I swear I was ready to smash things I was so pissed.. I knew it would be bad.. From the 20 minutes I've seen, I'm right
