So I was enjoying some Chipotle at the outdoor tables on Front St. this afternoon when I glanced towards the newspaper stands a few meters away.
That's when I saw one for a paper entitled, "The Columbus Post."
Am I insane or have I just never seen this paper in the 24 years I've lived in Columbus?
I investigated further. It was not free; $.50 the charge to read this publication.
From what I could tell it appears to be on the level. Although it says it's published by, "The Freedom Media Group" which sounds to me as either being radically left wing, or a crazy militia movement.
So does anyone know what the deal is with this paper and why this is the first time I've seen it anywhere?

I'm not too familiar with it, but I think it's been around for awhile. It's primarily targeted for the African-American demographic in Columbus, and I'm not sure what their distribution model is like, but I only see it from time to time in certain places. Perhaps they have a larger subscriber base than they do drop-off locations.
Funny you brought it up, because I hadn't seen it in awhile, and then just met a reporter who works there on Monday. ;)

It is an African-American weekly, a few years old.
Don't know if it was born of a fracture with the long-standing Columbus Call and Post or what.

It's the only paper aimed at the black community left in town.
It's owned by a different company than the Cleveland-based Call and Post which used to have a Columbus edition. I think well-known boxing promoter and afroist Don King might still own the Call and Post.
The Post has a very small staff and relies mostly on wire copy to fill it up.

their offices are on state street at fourth in the old norwich hotel downtown. pretty nondescript, nothing much besides a neon sign in the window. i pass by the building on the way to the library and i am familiar with the name, but i have never read a copy and dont really know where to go about getting one besides a handful of boxes downtown.
