New Players Theater is proud to announce its 2nd annual New Players Theater Festival at Hilliard’s Mill Run Amphitheater. NPT will feature SCAPIN by Bill Irwin and Mark O’Donnell, adapted from Molière, and William Shakespeare’s KING LEAR in repertory from June 21 to August 5.

Each summer, NPT moves to its island home at Hilliard’s Mill Run Amphitheater. This outdoor classical theater Festival which highlights the works of William Shakespeare features the only repertory company in Central Ohio. Audiences provide their own blankets and/or chairs, while NPT provides an enchanting evening of Shakespeare under the stars. Admission to all performances is Pay-What-You-Will at the door. The 2012 Festival will take place Thursdays through Sundays from June 21 through August 5. All performances are at 8pm. Parking is free at the Upper Arlington Lutheran Church at Mill Run (3500 Mill Run Drive, Hilliard, Ohio 43206). For more information, visit http://www.newplayers.org.
Kick off the summer by clowning around with the funniest actors in Central Ohio at SCAPIN, a family friendly romp directed by Artistic Director and NPT co-founder, Tim Browning. Todd Covert plays wily servant Scapin, who has one afternoon to reunite two pairs of lovers and get revenge on his miserly master with nothing but his quick wit and a pair of ill-fitting pants. It’s a good thing he has the help of fellow servant Sylvestre, played by comedic whirlwind Ralph Scott. Featuring a slapstick performance style inspired by classical clowning and the Commedia dell’Arte tradition, this high flying comic escapade will have your whole family rolling in our grassy aisles.
Next, NPT strips down Shakespeare's most renowned tragedy to the central story of a fractured family and a patriarch coming to terms with the legacy he'll leave his kingdom in his old age. Central Ohio acting royalty and NPT co-founder Mark Mann finally takes on the role of a lifetime with the support of the finest court of classical actors Columbus has to offer. Director Kal Poole is going green with our production, attempting to use 100% recycled material for sets, costumes, and properties. Don't miss the opportunity to witness this rarely performed masterpiece.
