I probably won't. I've never really been into the Olympics. I'll watch if it's on tv at the bar or restaurant I might be at, but at home I rarely watch sports on TV. (edit: cept for saturdays in the fall most weekends)

any of the NBC channels will be happy to show you non-stop coverage, well, except for all the commercials (they've raked in $1b+)

And there's a 24-hour live feed online.
I like to watch the Olympics when someone from a country like Senegal or Latvia has a chance to win. I like the opening ceremony, because I'm a geography nerd.
I like the track events - especially steeplechase (how awesome!) - but the gymnastics are a little scary. Those kids have been pushed so hard, seemingly sold to trainers and have been through so many injuries and surgeries.

I watched the mens USA v Japan soccer game last night on Universal HD. I'm excited that this Olympics will be shot in mostly (all?) HD!

I did too. Can't wait for Women's Beach Volleyball in HD!!! That one could earn "save until I erase" status on my DVR.

I can't wait for em'. Especially looking forward to the cycling and the triathalons.

four years ago I was hiking on the AT. I kept trying to think of the Olympics song but all that would come into my head was the Top Gun theme song. So we made up our own words to the Top Gun song, good times. That said, I love the Olympics!

Not really into any sports other than tonsil hockey. Plus China is a shit hole country that I really don't want to even recognize. Plus I am really only intereted in community things not comsumer goods. I might, like %10 chance watch the opening ceremonies tonite to see the nations and flags... but otherwise I think I am just boycotting it or un-interested.

I think there is pretty much going to be 24/7 coverage on the entire family of NBC stations (NBC, MSNBC, CNBC, USA, Universal HD, Oxygen, and Telemundo). I just checked the nbcolympics.com website in the TV listings section and they also list a channel entirely devoted to basketball and another for soccer.

I just found out because I use WideOpenWest I'm not authorized to view the full online replay of the US/Japan soccer game - evidently full replays you might want to view using the choppy-as-hell Silverlight from Microsoft require that you have a cable provider who has contracted with NBC to give you access.
So I watched the highlights, and Silverlight chopped up about every 15 seconds or so, would skip through the video and I'd have to rewind to watch the action again. I think I'll just stick to the television programming I guess.
/edit, I guess if I make an error in my selection and choose Time Warner Cable I have access to the content, but why would one make an error like that?

To put some numbers around it, per the Dispatch:
Total hours of 2008 NBC coverage: 3,600 (includes 2,200 hours of online coverage)
Total hours of TV coverage for all previous olympics combined: 2,562

I love, love, love the Olympics. Summer is also my favorite because they are the sports I know and understand. Winter olympics bored me as a child because I never had "winter," but the last ones I identified to a little more and really enjoyed as well. :) I like the super popular events like gymnastics, diving, swimming, etc. but I also like watching synchornized swimming, water polo, the marathon (I think Ryan and Bryan are running in memory of Ryan Shay who died at the trials so this should actually be pretty moving. I hope they do really well.), traithalon should be good too.

The Olympics have always held a special place in my heart. Ever since I was young, I was obsessed with anything Olympic related. For me, Olympians are the REAL celebrities of the world. My parents were full-time volunteers at the 1996 Atlanta Games. We lived down there for a few weeks and participated in everything Olympic. Then in 2002, I ran the Salt Lake City torch - which I bought after running with it.
I feel the need to all of you about the various ex-OSU student-athetes currently competing in the 2008 Olympics. Some USA, and some for other countries.
Take a look here: http://www.bigtennetwork.com/Olympics/Big-Ten-Olympians-Ohio-State.asp
Which ones hit close to Ashley's (and to those who have forgotten my real name ... THE WENCH'S) heart? Well, where do I start?
1. Raj Bhavsar - A great friend ... and amazing gymnast. One of Ohio State's best men on the rings, EVER. (Ohio State breeds Olympic gymnasts like Michigan breeds terrible football players). Raj was on the 2004 Olympic gymnastics team for rings. Raj was an alternate on the 2008 team UNTIL this Monday. He said he was with his coach Kevin Mazeika when he got the call that he would be Paul Hamm's replacement at the Beijing Games.
2. Jason Rogers - Jason was also good friend of mine at one time. Since he left OSU, I have lost touch. He was a member of the 2004 fencing team. And amazing SABRE fencer who once claimed the title of Junior WORLD Champion. A native of Los Angeles, I raise a beer to this man and wish him the best of luck!!!
3. Gulsah Gunenc - AN OLD OSU SWIMMING TEAMMATE!!! She will be competing for the country of Turkey! Her specialty is the butterfly ... and she is truly amazing. I wish her the best of luck! Beautiful girl!
4. Kate Hooven & Becky Kim: I HATE TO PAIR them together, BUT since they are a synchronized swimming duo - I am sure they will not mind ... too much! In 2004, the pair of GORGEOUS women won the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP in the duet portion of the event. Both originated from the Santa Clara Mermaids before joining the Ohio State Buckeyes. These girls are probably two of the most INTELLIGENT and STUNNING women I have ever met!!!! Not too mention, party animals. Trust me ... these girls are actual living proof that it is possible to be 1. an amazing athlete 2. a hardcore student 3. absolutely gorgeous .... and 4. PARTY LIKE A ROCK STAR!!!
5. Hannah Thompson: I met Hannah when I was a freshman, right around the time I met Jason Rogers. Like Jason, she is a fantastic fencer. HOWEVER, she uses a different sword ... the FOIL!!! She has a twin sister, with whom I was better acquainted. (Metta Thompson and I were quite the little party girls, while Hannah was a bit more serious - hence the OLYMPICS!) In college, the Thompson sisters and hit it off very very since we shared NEW YORK PRIDE (although the ladies were from upstate, the nature of fencing brought them to THE CITY! My best memory of Hannah, though, is not her fencing, but her boyfriend. She dated a fencer ... named Spencer -aka SPENCER THE FENCER. Sigh, It was funny at the time!
6. Margot Shumway: An old rower - but not a teammate, unfortunately. She graduated before I joined the team. But, her legacy was there throughout the time that I was an Ohio State rower ... and I remember her very well. She is an OHIO native, who started her rowing "career" at Ohio State. She is an amazing woman who was recognized last year during the OSU vs. AKRON game. BIG PROPS, since I know exactly WHAT kind of hell the sport of rowing actually is!
7. Miles Avery: COACH, Ohio State Men's Gymnastics. This is his 4th Olympics. Fourth you say? Yes folks, that is right. Ohio State's very own coach has been at the past 4 Olympics ... but not as a spectator - as a COACH. And why? Cause he is freaking amazing? How amazing, you ask? Well, the Hamm borhters could have gone anywhere to train .... after winning multiple gold medals in the 2004 Olympics. BUT THEY CHOSE OHIO STATE. And why... you ask? MILES AVERY. That is why. Just saying. This guy is the new Bella. Hell, he is better than Bella. BELLA - watch out!
And there are many others on that list of Ohio State athletes that will be competing in the Beijing Olympics. Unfortunately, I do not know them well enough to comment at this time. And unfortunately for those whom I have already listed, I have not given any of them full justice to just how awesome they truly are! Finally, I wish all my friends the best of luck in the 2008 Olympics! GO BUCKS! GO USA!!!

Not really a sports fan, but I can admire the dedication and focus of those athletes. This time I'm more interested in keeping an eye on the political/ecological stuff going on there, it's going to be a Games to remember.

I love the Summer Olympics (I'm recording everything that's on the main NBC channel). Being an ex-swimmer, I am excited for that the most. I have had team mates and coaches participate in the past (Sydney and Australia), but I don't think I know anyone participating this time.
Watched the whole opening ceremony last night. Pretty awe inspiring. It's great how much of it is in HD/on the internet this time. I am watching badminton in HD right now! And in a rare good move, TW cable has added USA HD temporarily for the Olympics.
Hazy Stars, that's great you know all those athletes participating. What an amazing experience for them. Best of luck to all of them!

Hell yes I'm going to watch. I think this is a great opportunity for the US to quell some of focus on all of the negative shit going on (Iraq, Afghanistan, Bush :P ). Let's face it, our popularity in the "World Eye" is a bit questionable. I think the games are an important break to all the BS where we can just focus on the spirit of open competition.

Don't forget that our men's football team has 1 past and 2 current Crew members on it. Cheer them on!

I damn near cried when Yao Ming came out with that little boy who saved two of his classmates by digging all three of them out of the earthquake rubble. The whole ten days are going to be amazing.
