The days are getting longer, and the temperature is rising Ã¢â‚¬â€œ yes, folks, itÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s taco truck season! What better way to mark the occasion than to join us on our first Taco Truck Tour of the year?

Meet us on April 24th, at around 4:00pm in the parking lot by Taqueria Little Mexico (3900 Sullivant Ave.) for an afternoon of sampling the cuisines of Mexico as offered by the taco trucks of the west side, including:

The tacos & gorditas of Little Mexico, ColumbusÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s oldest taco truck
Succulent pollo al carbon (marinated and grilled chicken) found only at Los Potosinos
The unbeatable spit roasted al pastor tacos and gringas at Los Guachos
Pizza-sized tlayudas at Super Torta II
Ã¢â‚¬Â¦and much more, including a live mariachi band at Potosinos. WeÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ll be at the trucks with guidance and advice, and will be distributing maps at the meet-up point.

About the Bike Ride:

So - we will be riding BICYCLES from Goodale Park to meet up at the start. We will ride to the trucks and ride back into town. It will probably be about 20 miles total riding on our BICYCLES. This BICYCLE RIDE is being organized by COLUMBUS RIDES - a BICYCLE blog.

Hal and Al's (on Parsons Ave) have kindly offered to host an after party for the taco tour. For $8 you will get 4 different mexican beers in bottles in a dos equis bucket to keep - dos equis amber, dos equis lager, sol, and tecate. There will also be jarritos sodas, for those who don't want beer. Good way to start your Cinco de Mayo celebrations early.

The tour is open to any form of transport - cars, scooters, bike, bus.

Should also mention that the trucks only take cash. Seating is limited by there is plenty of space, so folding chairs might be a good idea if you want to sit.

We will be featuring the six west side trucks around Sullivant/ Georgesville - some for as long/ short as you want.

Bumpity Bump

The show goes on even if the weather is bad.

There is a great after tour beer special at Hal and Al's in hour of the tour - four mexican beers in a Dos Equis bucket and you get to keep that.

There will be other tours and meet ups later in the year. However this one will be hard to beat. We are expecting (not 100% confirmed) a mariachi band and maybe some other surprises.

Without going into too much detail at this early date, I do want to mention that the trucks on the west side are getting some flack from the Hilltop Business Association - the HBA apparently feels as though the truck's proximity to the Delphi/potential casino site is compromising the rise in land values from the development, and are promising what sounds like a somewhat underhanded fight to pressure the trucks to move elsewhere or close up.

While this tour wasn't planned with an eye towards making a statement on the matter, we'd like to think that it could serve to show the city how much support the trucks have. I'd encourage everyone from the west side with an interest in the trucks to make an appearance.

I'll be there for sure, and P. will be there too as soon as he's done w/ chem lab. I've been looking forward to this for the past few weeks, here's to hoping that the good weather holds out one more day. :)

Wave the promise of tacos under my nose and I'll follow you guys anywhere, LOL. I hear Lidia is even making tres leches cake for the occasion.
