Taco Bell would not serve me two hard tacos this evening as I walked through the drive-through. I think that this is unconscionabile. They said that they were closed and then continued to serve customers in automobiles. They told me that their liability insurance wouldn't cover a fellow who was standing in the drive-through lane, but I disagree.I tried to hold the window open but the employees perservered.,. It is normally restaurant policy to not serve people who walk up to the drive through. Whether it has to do with insurance, I don't know, but it's their right. People walking up 1)Can't be as easily identified if they are trying to rob the place and 2)are more likely to be drunk and unruly. I'm guessing this was after the dining room had closed? I wonder if they serve you if you're on a bicycle.

I was certainly drunk but not unruly. Taco Bell lost iteslf 89 Cents x 2.

Googling for an answer brought up this point: what if someone in a car behind you orders and then comes around the corner? You're the last thing he expects to see, so you could get run over. The same thing goes for bikes, but not motorcycles, because motorcycles have brake lights.
"I tried to hold the window open but the employees perservered." - The employees could define that as unruly.

Yep, its all about liability. Encouraging people to stand in a drive through by even allowing it, let alone serving them, means the first guy who gets run over and killed=ridiculously high payout in lawsuit.
I'm with you on the frustration JV, I've tried to do it at that exact Taco Bell before even (guessing you were at the GV location), but I have to say I do understand why.

I too have been denied walk thru tacos in drunken hours of dire need. Next time identify a trustworthy drive thru customer and ask them to broker your tacos. Chances are they've either been in the exact situation before, or they're drunk too and will want to help a brother score the mandatory drunk fourth meal.

I still think it was unconscionable, and I'm impressed that I almost spelled unconscionable right last night. I walked past this morning and shook my fist at Taco Bell.
Plus, I didn't even want Taco Bell for myself last night. It was for my wife :)

This too shall pass...

More taco trucks would solve this travesty. Maybe they could open across from Taco Bell stores in the same way that Starbucks always seems to open across the street from Cup o' Joe stores.

Why not just flag a car entering the drive through and see if they would order for you?
+1 on more taco trucks.

Oh, the Humanity!!

i've tried that before and they wouldn't let me either :(
however, when i am in a car at a drive thru and people ask me to get them food i do it because i'm nice. you should have asked one of the drivers to get you a taco.

It's a symptom of our car-based society. If more people walked and rode bikes, drive throughs would probably compensate in some way, otherwise they would lose business. Something to look forward to or aim towards, I guess.

Unless of course you patronize a business when they are "closed"-at least at said counter. Which was the point of this thread.
