Where's your favorite swimming lake in Ohio? I love swimming in lakes but Alum Creek is kinda crusty. Any suggestions on good public beaches, lakes or ponds for summer swimming? Any great places in Ohio?

I second the request.
Some miss-informed individual suggested Hoover Dam Reservoir.
Looking for a place that I can swim and preferably has a beach.

It's not packed with people to the brim and you can also rent paddle boats. It is a drive but I think for a day at the lake it's worth it. Also cabins for rentPosted 2 years ago # -
Kiser Lake is quiet (5 hp boat motor limit) plus it has good walking trails and a campground.

If you really want to swim, I recommend taking the drive up to Lake Erie. Swimming in fake lakes and scummy ponds freaks me out. PM me if you want specific recommendations on good beaches (either popular or secluded.)

The urban swimming hole. The pool on the 4th floor of the Renaissance hotel. I always feel like I'm on a cruise ship up there.

We used to swim at "The Quarry" all the time before security got real tight. It was wholesome, urban cliff-jumping at its finest! Ah, nostalgia...
I can tell you where NOT to go: Dylan State Park- You will exit with the most suspicious layer of film on your skin. Swimland in Whitehall- you will cut your feet on broken glass.

Lake Hope looks really nice. Another option, maybe: we've gone to Indian Lake. Carl's brother has a place up there, and a pontoon boat to chill out on (and view July 4 fireworks from). I don't know that it has many beaches, tho. It's a remarkably shallow lake, so swimming is pretty easy. Unfortunately, my favorite place to lake swim is at my parent's house on the Lake of the Ozarks. We float on those foam rafts, so the dogs don't pop them. Appears from these pics from my parent's house that the dogs use the rafts as much as we do!

Oooooooohhhhhh....I really want to go lake swimming now!

Aww, don't make fun of Swimland - I spent half of my childhood there. It was like a wonderland to my 7-year old self. Besides, isn't it (eventually) going to be torn down and rebuilt into some huge church? I thought I read that somewhere.
I have no recs for a natural swimming hole. I always thought every drop of open water in this state was completely infested with fecal material.

If you want to venture out of Ohio and want a unique body of water try Lake Cumberland. No beach but check out the link:

My favorite swim spot isn't a technically a "hole" but if you go at the right time you can have almost the whole place to yourself. ;)

This thread kinda makes me want a pontoon boat and a "suitcase" of Old Milwaukee

How very disappointing.
For all my life I have kind of assumed a place to swim. I've been spoiled with the ability to just grab my trunks and bike to a spot, whether it's a freshwater lake, the gulf, an ocean or a nice stream.
It's like ..... well, I can't adequately describe it. Kind of like fresh fruit in the grocery store. You just expect it to be there.(No slam at all meant.)

(No slam at all meant.)Well put. Same here. I used to swim in rivers the most as a kid -- do the canoe or raft float trip or fishing with my dad, and then pull up on a sandbar, picnic, and swim -- or even little creeks that ran through neighborhoods, where we'd kick around and catch tadpoles. I just figured I wasn't in touch with folks that did that around here, but maybe there really isn't as much available. Bummer :(

I've often wondered why they haven't developed a beach at Griggs Reservoir. That part of the river is reasonably clean (used for drinking water) and the water level is stable above the dam.
But I second Lake Hope; it's the most pristine water body I've come across in Ohio.
